“Small cheap restaurant serving traditional Hungarian food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2014 via mobile

We visited this restaurant after doing a trip advisor search on restaurants close to where we were staying. We went mid-afternoon and were the only people in there. This is a good restaurant if you want to sample some traditional Hungarian dishes but not pay over the odds. We chose a meal off the 'specials' board which consisted of soup and a main meal for 990 forints each (which is about £4) we had two drinks a glass of wine and a shot of palinka (a Hungarian spirit) and a dessert of two pancakes. Altogether the bill came to 3965 forints. The food was nice although the main with fries and pork wasn't anything special..the soup starter was lovely. The decor is basic but it was all very clean and the waiter was very attentive if a little bit too much! I would recommend this place more for lunch than dinner.

“Don't go there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

Our visit to Hunyadi Kisvendeglo was horrible:
1. The place was empty when we arrived, and only the family set there with their young children smoking and drinking loads of beer. I must emphasize again: little children (5 to 15 years old approximately) was seeing their parents get drunk and fooling around all evening, and the parents actually encouraged them drink and smoke with them.

2. The food was very mediocre, homemade and nothing special. They didn't serve us bread or anything like other restaurants in Budapest do.

3. The parents don't speak any English so they didn't pay any attention to us throughout the dinner, but let their young sons serve us.

4. At the end we got the bill that was hand-written by the mother in Hungarian. The prices didn't match to what was presented in the menu, the total sum was wrong and also didn't match the details in the bill, and just then we discovered they served us large dishes although we asked for the smaller ones. When we tried to make things right, suddenly the drunken father came to us and started yelling at us, arguing and insulting us, and all that in Hungarian. Though his sons tried to help us, he didn't let them. We ended things up by paying them and left the place feeling angry and sorry for the little children.

“Pretty good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2014 via mobile

Nice little place with the owner family sitting at the back playing cards. Food was average but it depends on what you eat. My paprika chicken was nice but there was very little meat. My boyfriend's meal was a lot bigger. Tokai wine was very nice. Laid back atmosphere and ok food if you're not looking for fine dining.

“Beautiful Hungarian family with amazing food.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013 via mobile

Sitting here now in front of a great plate of food. Menu is in very basic english. I always order the "onion pork roast" as seen in my pic. Basically a fried boneless pork chop with amazing fried onions on top. You have to order a side to go with it and the potatoes with parsley are outstanding. Simple and delicious. With a beer you can walk out for around 1800huf...or something like $8! I could go here every night. Family run and they are usually gathered around the table in the back. Friendly, and inviting. They make you feel right at home. Things to know. Cash only. No credit cards. Not sure that they do the lunch buffet anymore(as mentioned in previous reviews) There's no space for it and there's no equipment out when I've been there for dinner. Unless it's very simple trays and sterno.Prices are so good though just go and make your own buffet. Chestnut puree. Finish your meal with one. You won't regret it. Unless you have a nut allergy.

I updated the location but not sure how quick it updates as this is my first review. It's really on Vorosmarty next to the park.
(btw. Many locations on the Trip Advisor Budapest app are wrong. Either completely, on the wrong side of the street, the next street over, or some places may be tucked away in some terrace. Good luck.)

“Great food and a very nice host”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013 via mobile

This little restaurant should be in the top #100! You get a rich buffet with traditional Hungarian food with desert for just 9?. The location in trip advisor is not exact, it's a little more to the east, it's worth searching!
