“We loved the area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

From the moment we arrived at the Danube we felt comfortable and welcome. Bob our host, was engaging and friendly. The guest house is clean and the bed very comfortable, with lovely pillows. Bob provided us with all the information we needed to find our way around the city, and advised us about local restaurants and bars. A great place to stay, central, good value, and love Bob's giggle!

Room Tip: In the summer you may prefer to look over the court yard at the back of building

My wife and I stayed at the Danube Guesthouse (DG), 9/1/13 to 9/4/13, to begin a 3 week tour of Central Europe. This is an outstanding property to stay at and is as advertised on Trip Advisor by many others. This bed and breakfast is in the Jewish quarter about a 10 minute walk from the Deak Ferenc ter Metro station. It is in a quiet neighborhood with many a restaurant and bar to be entertained at day and night. When you first arrive at the front entrance to the DG building property, one may wonder if you made the right choice. Upon entering the property you might second guess yourself again, but this lasts only a couple of minutes. Once you enter the DG door on the second floor, wow...you see a well taken care of property. Proprietors Zoltan and Bob are two great people who treat you like a valued guest every hour and everyday. From the moment we arrived they took the time to explain to us Budapest and the many places to go to for sights, food, and entertainment and where to stay away from. They have a computer with internet in the hallway that is shared between guests They even sell tickets to the Schetzenyi Bath House and made reservations for us to get our massages. All we had to do was show up at the bath house and we were taken care. Zoltan and Bob insure your room is clean and you have fresh water at all times. The cleaning lady did an excellent job. You don't have to worry about the safety of your personal goods. Trust me, Zoltan and Bob are well off and don't need your stuff. We had the junior suite room and it was great for us. The DG also has a variety of larger rooms to choose from. Zoltan and Bob always seem to be playing soothing contemporary temporary jazz in their office. They present a great atmosphere. If you want to keep something in a fridge, they have one in the office that is shared with all the guests. The DG is in a very safe neighborhood and no one will mess with you. We were out very late on our several nights stay and we had no problems at all. We found everyone in Budapest to be friendly, courteous and always willing to help us out if we looked lost. The water is drinkable straight from the tap all over. Rooms did not have a/c, but they did have a fan in each. We did not need a/c during the time of year we were there as just opening the window let in plenty of cool air. We slept great at night. You are provided breakfast coupons to eat at the Bocadillo Café about a 6 minute walk from the property and close to the Astoria Metro Station. Excellent service every morning at the café and good food. We are glad we have Zoltan and Bob as our new international friends. We give the DG an outstanding for our stay and when we return again, this will be our property of choice to stay at again. Thanks Zoltan and Bob. We are spreading the word to family and friends about the DG who have interest in visiting. [By the way Bob, thanks for the big bottle of Heineken on our way out. It went down well on our next leg of our journey. :) ]

Room Tip: Junior suite was great for us, but will choose one of the bigger rooms next time for the small price...

Very clean, daily maid service, with comfortable room although a little small. Location is fabulous in Pest. Very secure and temperature controlled. Breakfast was excellent......it is off site in a nearby restaurant.
Bob was our host there in the guest house and provided much needed travel info and advice about the city as well as the ability to get us tickets to several venues right on site .......a concert and Danube river dinner cruise and the bath, Svechenyl
He also provided cold filtered water every day or whenever we wanted it. Mostly what he provided was a valuable friend in a fairly foreign culture and language.....he was available all the time as well.
Budapest is a gorgeous city right up there with Paris, Rome, London in terms of culture , restaurants, sights and beauty...one of the great cities of the world

Our host, Zoltán was waiting for us at the front door to welcome us to his B&B, you realize that your stay will be a good experience. He explains where to eat and where not to eat. He steers you away from the pricey tourist traps and to restaurants that are welled priced and the food delicious. The rooms are nice sized, modern and clean. A nice touch is they bring you a pitcher of ice water when you return to the B&B from touring. I would like to return to Budapest some day and when I do I would stay at the Danube Guest House again.

One of the best guest homes ever! From the moment we walked into the Danube Guest House and were welcomed by Zoltan and Bob we felt right at home. We were impressed by their support given to us as first time tourists to Budapest and their attention to details about the local scene such as info about a "ruin" bar which we visited and enjoyed. As mentioned in other reviews the room, amenities, and location were great. Zoltan and Bob seemed to anticipate any problems that we might experience in Budapest and we really appreciated their advice in exploring the wonderful central location of their guest house in Budapest. We especially enjoyed sitting outside mornings in the solarium at a local cafe around the corner eating the free breakfast that Zoltan and Bob had arranged for their guests. We had a great time.

The Guest House is well located in the heart of Budapest on a quiet courtyard. Zoltan and Bob were delightful hosts. They were extremely helpful in planning our stay sharing information about sights to see, restaurants, transportation, etc. They were always available, hospitable, and accommodating. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast in a nearby cafe was OK but not great.
