“Moving story”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

Very moving display on the edge of the Danube. Very easy to access and worth the effort to go. You can take photos and the area will also give you some great shots overall the water.

“Very Moving Memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Sad memorial that is worth seeing and remembering. It's just South of Parliament. As others have said, not sure why the city of Budapest makes it so hard to reach. You do have to cross a fast moving, crowded riverside road without a crosswalk. Then you most likely will have to hurdle a couple metal road barriers on each side before traffic descends upon you. There are no signs pointing you to the memorial. I really don't think the city of Budapest is trying to hide this memorial. I just think cities sometimes overlook landmarks and sites that they do not capitalize on with entrance fees, etc.

“A sad reminder”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2013

Our longship cruise boat was parked right near these shoes. It was a sad reminder of the horror that occured in Budapest for the Jews in WWII.

“A poignant memorial”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

Whilst on holiday in Budapest my boyfriend and I stopped by the Shoes on the Danube Promenade.

This is a really moving memorial to honour the Jewish people that were victims of the Arrow Cross Party. If you have time in Budapest then spare some time to see this.

It is worth going to the House of Terror prior to seeing the Shoes but not essential.

Be careful when trying to get to the shoes as there is a really busy road next to the Promenade.
