“Great Meal!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

This French style Bistro on the Buda side was a worthwhile walk of about 15 minutes up through the Buda Castle Tunnel from our hotel (Lanchid 19) near the Chain Bridge. We entered a packed house to the tunes of a live jazz quartet. I was a bit apprehensive coming here due to some of the bad reviews but the food and service we received here was excellent. My wife’s Chicken Caesar was plentiful and my Hungarian Beef Paprika with noodles was outstanding, accented by an exquisitely spiking red hot chili pepper! For Buda side dining, Déryné along with Lanchid Sörözo and Marvelosa are excellent choices.

“nice atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

We went there without any reservations on a Saturday for dinner and was lucky to get a table for 4 people.

The atmosphere is really nice and it seems like the restaurant is divided in small different themes. Very cosy and authentic atmosphere which take you back in time.

The food and quality are matching the prices alright – the staff and service is also alright – though it seems like there are too many waiters it can be hard to get their attention sometimes. So as I can read for some of the other reviews they could work a bit more with the service and be more attentive.

But all in all a nice place with good food. I think I would go again.

“Highly recommended didn' t disappoint us”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

First impression was wau as the restaurant was very cosy and busy. Background music was also very good/ funky. The menu was quite selective, but we had no problems to pick our dishes. Food quality was very fresh and good. Good service in english. The basement/ vine celler is worth a visit. We had the vine off the list which was a very good choice, grand cuvee red vine was approx 8500Huf which was reasonable considering the taste. Three course dinner with prosecco and the red vine was 24 000Huf approx 100€.

“Very dissapointing”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

We were there today probably for the 30th time . Just had coffee.
Greeting from the hostess was nice, we were offered a table right away (place was empty). But our waiter (long time member of the staff 30 some years old, male, brown hair 170cm tall) did not greet us upon arrival, got the 10% tip, did not say a thank you, and did not say a word upon our departure. It was very dissapointing! You don't necessarily live by the company's standards with the regulars, but this attitude was unacceptable.

“A great bistro in Buda”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2013

On the night of our arrival in Budapest, our hotel (Mercure) recommended a restaurant a couple of blocks away, Horvath Etterem. We had a mediocre meal, and my wife came down with food poisoning that night. I would avoid this restaurant at all costs. However, right next door to it is the wonderful Bistro Deryne. We first tried it for breakfast, and were pleased with the pastries made in-house that were sold in a small stand next to the terrace outside. We tried them for dinner that evening, and again were extremely pleased with our meals, so much so that we returned the next evening for dinner (not to speak of breakfast). Even though we were foreigners, we were treated like valued customers by the owner, who spent some time chatting with us about the restaurant. They feature contemporary interpretations of traditional Hungarian dishes. If you are in Budapest, I highly recommend this outstanding restaurant.
