The Hotel Agro in Balatonfüred is sited in a run-down area of town some distance from the lake. It would appear to be left over from the communist era – indeed very little seems to have been done to it since then. It is vast with long dimly-lit corridors, the walls of which show signs of damp penetration. Everything in our room was very basic and utilitarian. There were not even any proper beds, only four convertible easy chairs, two of which had been folded down into beds for us. In the en-suite bathroom the single tap on the basin doubled as the tap for the bath and the shower. Even the loo seat was the cheapest I have ever encountered. Added to this the staff seemed to lack any sense of purpose and breakfast, that was supposed to start at 07:00, was not available until 07:45.
The only saving grace was the very large indoor swimming pool which I would guess was about 25 metres in length.
A wedding celebration was in progress when we arrived and the festivities continued (loudly) until 04:30, which didn't help.
