“Staying in City Center of Ljubljana”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2013

We stayed in Petra Varl Accomodation late October 2013. It is a B&B but not the kind of Bed & Breakfast you might be thinking. It is rather a serve-yourself breakfast. Everything you need for breakfast are self contained in your room including kettle to warm water for coffee, percolator, toaster, etc. The room is equipped with small frig already with juice, coffee cream, etc. We stayed in the Blue Room with a balcony. The facility is tucked behind a building arch entrance. Room is small not suitable for luggage. However, ideal for a short-stay. It has cell phone provided to contact Petra or Alex. They are both nice people. Good communication. The facility is smack right in the center of the city. There is open market as you go out of the facility. B&B facility is safe, secure with modern locks and quiet. Few minutes walk to all city attractions. No lift. Not ideal for those who have heavy luggage. About 10 minute walk from the train station.

Room Tip: Blue room is ideal in summer for those who wants to stay a little bit of time in the room.

This is a fantastic B&B in a perfect location, next to the market, few steps from the dragon bridge and few minutes away from preseren square where all the activities are happening!
Petra is a great host, she even brought us home made cake on our arrival! We stayed in the blue room for 1 night, which is quite small, but with a nice terrace and in the red room for another night. This one is much more spacious but with no terrace. Both rooms are nicely decorated, with a kitchenette which is great for a light breakfast.

Room Tip: The blue room is small but with a terrace, the red room is larger but no terrace!

Great B&B in a fantastic location. This B&B is right next to the markets and the funicular and trails up to the castle. The rooms are very comfortable and clean and the ladies that run the B&B are very friendly.
The only area for improvement is the breakfast options.

We had the red room. The room was nice and well equipped (flatscreen and DVD - welcome on the three rainy days we had). The kitchenette does'nt have a cooking-plate but there was a tosti-machine is perfect with the square sandwiches you'll find in the fridge. There is a Spar-supermarket nearby the dragon-bridge where we bought some cheese & ham to along our tosti.

The breakfast is indeed DIY and quite poor in fact (carton of milk and orange juice, sandwiches, marmelade-cups and butter-cups), Some cereal as well.

The location is superb in the old town across the central market.
Upon arrival, I've asked Petra if I could park our car in the little parkinglot (inner courtyard). That wasn't possible and I was suggested to park at the station (10min walk). Strange, there were several places left, so I expected this was possible when I read the reviews below...
Anyway, the parking at the station is quiet cheap (7€/day).

You get a cellphone (free) at your disposal in order to call Petra in case of a problem or extra breakfast supplies..

The entrance-door of hallway won't last longtime because you have to smash strongly in order to close it...

Room Tip: I suppose the yellow room would be better

We arrived in the late afternoon to find instructions taped to the front door on how to access the room. Ana greeted us soon after and showed us the room- she was very friendly & the room is well fitted out. The breakfast is a DIY affair with cereal, milk, teas, bread and spreads supplied.
The room is so perfectly situated in a quiet courtyard but amazingly close to everything you'd want to see. If you park here be aware it gets very full and you might have trouble getting out. But considering the room as advertised as not having parking available, we were happy to be able to park at all.
Our stay was great up until the end. Preparing to check out, the inside handle fell off our door (something which had happened before and we'd been told was normal). We re-attached the handle & closed the door... And we're locked in the room. We called Ana who has the apartment next door and she wasn't in Ljubljana (not sure how we were meant to check out, then..) but that she would call a neighbour. So then we were left trapped and waiting in the room when we were meant to be on the road. This was the only downside of an otherwise great stay at this b&b - as we got let out they apologised sincerely and said they would be fixing the handle that afternoon. I suppose it just felt a bit like we'd been left to our own devices, it might have been nice to see Ana a bit more, but since it's a self-sufficient kind of situation I suppose it's ok.

Room Tip: The blue room was very cute and had a little balcony.

Nice B&B with a wonderful location next to main outdoor market. Can be hard to find if you're coming from train station since it's in a courtyard off the street and it just says B&B with no mention of Petra Varl. Nice rooms with small kitchenette that has milk, juice, bread, cereal for breakfast pretty basic continental breakfast. Our room, the yellow room had very squeaky floors. Nearby church bells can be loud. Our room on the third floor with high ceiling rooms lots of steps.
Seafood restaurant that you pass going into the courtyard is excellent. Nice bathroom very modern. They give you a cell phone to use and it's a straight 10 minute walk to train and bus station. Price was very good 60 euros a night especially coming from Venice hotel prices.

Room Tip: if they have room on 2nd floor, they call it the first floor you'll save some steps, not sure if...

Me and my teenage son stayed in Petra Varl for 3 night in June and absolutely loved it! Petra is very nice and accommodating, room was very clean and cozy, view from the window was very sweet! Everything was great. The kitchenette with small breakfast was exactly what we needed. Petra was very kind to give us cell phone for the use and also provided parking. The location is also perfect. Loved Petra Varl and Ljubljana, will be back! :)
