“Terrible start, but remedied, sort of”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2010

I originally booked this place for Room 16 their family apartment. It seemed really nice online, but I never actually went in. Prior to my arrival they told me they were switching me to Room 13 their "other" family apartment. In total we were four adults and one small child. I don't know what Room 16 is like, but I would not recommend more than two adults stay in "Family Apartment 13," It is one (very hot) bedroom in the attic with one (extremely hot) bathroom in the attic and the second bedroom is a closet with a bed shoved in. Although it has one small air conditioner for the whole place, it by far did NOT do the job. And the low sloped ceiling of the attic felt cramped. I also did not enjoy the 93 steps it took to get to our room each time (no elevator). Neither did the grandmother who was with us.
We immediately told the nighttime desk attendant of our unhappiness, but he said he wasn't a manager and couldn't do anything. I asked if we could just leave and visit the hotel across the plaza (which was awesome, I went inside) and he said that we'd have to pay for our week's stay because of their strong no-cancellation policy. So we stayed in the hot attic and got very little sleep.
The next day the manager was in and she was VERY nice, however she still wouldn't let us just check out and said that all the other hotel's rooms were full. She put half of our party up in the nice hotel across the street, but left our family of three in the hot box.
Then the three of us checked out (because our stay was over) and the remaining two adults were shifted into a room near the bottom floor. Not the best solution and they said their room was, "OK."
Oh, the breakfast was good, and there is a pretty garden terrace that we discovered our last day. It would have been nice if we had been told of it at check in. It was a nice escape from our sauna room.
Oh and you have to park MANY streets away from the hotel, there's no parking. You can't even drop your bags off in front.

Great location, right next to the 'old city' where there are lots of buzzing cafes and bars and just a short walk to the castle, where you can enjoy spectular views over the city. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here, who were all very friendly and polite and really welcomed us during our stay. Breakfast was excellent and so was our spacious room. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Excellent hotel, very well located, staff very helpful, especially with our arrangements for early morning departure. Breakfasts very good.

Room 5, however, does not get good natural light. This could be improved.

On our recent stay the staff was so helpful--in offering an alternate room when it was clear the one we booked wouldn't be suitable, in giving advice on restaurants, getting around, arranging transport to airport and in generally looking after us. Our room (#1) was spacious and comfortable, as was the bathroom. The location was great and the square was quiet at night. We'd stay there again.

Stayed at the Antiq for one night while attending a conference to check out various parts of the city. Good breakfast - typical Euro fare - staff made me a nice capachino. Internet was spotty - frustrating at times but used their computer for heavy consitent usage.
Staff friendly - easy walk to key parts of the old center center. Room clean.

My girlfriend and I spent two nights in the Antiq Hotel at the start of our ten-day journey across Slovenia and Northern Croatia, and were very fortunate to stay there. My +/- review:

Positives
------------

* Location -- Could not be better. Antiq is in the cobblestoned Gornji Trg in the heart of Ljubljana's Old Town, surrounded by quality restaurants and a couple of antique shops. This made sightseeing a pleasure, as all major sights are within a five-minute walk from the hotel.

* Service -- Antiq's team of young, English-speaking front desk personnel was great. They provided restaurant guidance, helped us with rental car arrangements, and loaned us bikes to tour north of the city.

* Coziness -- Despite its downtown location, Antiq is quiet and comfortable. No honking, outside noise, etc.

* Free Internet -- A terminal on each floor, and at no added cost.

* Breakfast -- High quality food in a cute dining room. My girlfriend rated it as one of our best breakfasts in Slovenia.

Negatives
---------------

* Room Size/Value -- It was fine, but our double room was hardly spacious. For 144E per night, I expected a bit more.

Overall, though, we paid for the location, and also received a fine little hotel that catered to our needs. And, from our tour of the city, there don't appear to be many comparable options. Merits a strong recommendation.

All the staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The location was great with easy access to the old town, although a bit tricky to find. Parking was a little difficult but we got lucky and found free street parking right along the river 100 meters from the hotel.
