“We'll keep going back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2009

Just back from our 3rd trip to Pristava Lepena. 1st was 2003, 2nd 2006 and now 2009. As always the service was fantastic and the scenery breathtaking.

100% of the weekday guests were repeat visitors which gives you an indication of what the management achieve. Silvia and Milan's hospitality is unique. They are both multi-lingual and have an interesting and varied work experience between them which include translating for the UN and civil engineering.

Pristava Lepena offers riding lessons, a swimming pool, tennis, archery, hot tub, sauna, a bar and a really good restaurant. Since our previous visit the restaurant has a new chef manager and an entirely new and massively improved menu. The chap at the helm is Dennis...he speaks exceptionally good English but is also fluent in Slovenian, Croation, German, Italian and Portugeuse - plus he speaks 'a little' French. The food was very tasty and very classy - zelo dober!

By UK standards the pricing is very good (the website will have up to date info) and the entire crew will do whatever they can to make every guests stay as enjoyable as possible. Whether you want to learn to ride, partake in some extreme sports on the nearby Soca river or (like us) hike a little and relax a lot your needs will be catered for.

I can also recommend a local taxi / tour chap called Harij (pronounced Harry) - Silvia or Milan at Pristava Lepena can give you his details should you wish to book. We arranged taxis to and from Brnik airport (near Ljubljana the capital) about a 2 hour drive away, but he will also collect from Trieste, Klagenfurt or Jesenice (or anywhere else vaguely local) if more convenient.

The local area is very beautiful. Mountains, the Soca, hardly any people and absolutely stunning scenery in every direction. I can't imagine never revisiting the Soca valley again and wouldn't stay anywhere else.

I looked at the reviews of Pristava and wondered if it could be as good as people said -- it was better. Fantatic location , great rooms and wonderful people. Milan & Sylvia couldn't do more for you -so helpful and full of ideas & tips to explore the area.
A top tip was to put the car on the train and travel from Lake Bohinj back to the Most na Soci . It only cost ~11 euro one way and saved lots of driving.
We'll be back sometime if just to see Brian the goat.

Just returned from 7 nights stay at Pristava and would like to reassure anyone who is still undecided about whether to go or not - GO! You will not be disappointed. We stayed in Apartment A2 - (definitely the best for size and location if you are a small family). It has two bedrooms upstairs, with a small kitchenette, dining area, sitting area, two bathrooms and a built in woodburner. Cabins are cosy, quiet and private. This year I was looking for an elusive mixture of peace and quiet, good food, separate bedrooms for us and the kids, lots of activities on site and other children for our little ones to play with. Pristava was one of the only sites I could find that offered all the above. And when we got there we weren't disappointed in any way. We took advantage of all the facilities on offer - including riding the Lippizaner horses (and the pony for the children), tennis, archery, jacuzzi, etc. The area itself, the Soca valley, is glorious. The most beautiful place i have ever been. So clean, so peaceful and the river is mesmerizing. Every night we ate at Pristava and were never disappointed - lots of meat (which we love), but always balanced with delicious salads and vegetables. We were also served some delicious fish. Do try to make the special spit roast evenings - but they are only planned on warm, clear nights. All the staff go out of their way to make you welcome, and you come away feeling refreshed and very sorry to leave. I can't wait to return.

  • Liked — The cabins, the staff, the horses, the views, the tranquility, the efficiency, the food!
  • Disliked — We were only there 7 nights, instead of 14.

We are a family of two adults and two boys aged 4 and 9 and stayed at the hotel in a apartment B for six night in July 2008. First of all is the landscape absolute stunning. Soča River and the tributaries are among the most beautiful rivers in the world - a flyfishers paradise. At the hotel you are given the most kind and professional service. The facilities (pool, tenniscourt etc.) that are offered are well maintained and almost always available. The whole hotel area contain a perfect balance between feeling being in the nature and at the same time having all kinds of services and activities close by hand.

A rustic complex of small cabins with views of the surrounding mountains. Our apartment had a bedroom upstairs and a small living area downstairs with sink, refrigerator, TV, and fireplace. A very private feeling cabin with a terrace area in back. There's an excellent restaurant with terrace on-site. We had B&B (with eggs cooked to order) but they offered half and full board (maybe for people staying longer than our two days). They have Lipizzaner horses with a stable and riding ring. There's a sauna, swimming pool and hot tub - but the hot tub was going to cost extra due to our short stay so we didn't use it. The location is in a beautiful side valley off the Soca valley but close to the road coming out of Triglav National Park. The owners, Silvia and Milan Dolenc, were very nice and lived in the states for awhile so their English is very good.

  • Liked — The ambience of the whole place and the very friendly owners
  • Disliked — Narrow winding driveway going up to the place

An absolutely fantastic place. We stayed here for 3 nights in September and it is hidden away in between the mountains. The cabins are lovely with wood burning fires and quality fittings. It wasn't cheap by Slovenian standards but defintely worth it. We spent most of our time hiking and there are some great routes - the Korbarid walk was a brilliant mix of history and nature, although the Lonely Planet got it very wrong with the restuarant in the Toplice Hotel - it is nowhere near a Michelin star and was actually the worst food we had in Slovenia!

Although our room didn't have cooking factilities we appreciated the fridge and kettle. Sitting outside it was so quiet that you could hear the mini rock slides down the mountains. If you are there out of peak season I would recommend the BnB option rather than half board as although the food in the restuarant was lovely we found the atmosphere a bit lacking as there were only a few diners.

Although we didn't use any of the facilities I think it would be a great place for families with horseriding, pool, archery, mountain biking, tennis court, swimming pool, spa, sauna and gym.
