The hotel is indeed somewhat dated, you may in fact wonder if you have travelled back in time when you check in. But in fairness the area is so nice you probably wont care too much. Breakfast on the terrace is a very pleasant experience, meals in the evening are somewhat different, a bit like a school dinner. Rooms are clean, on the small side, but with a balcony which is always nice.

Hotel is in a fab location, with many rooms overlooking the lake and it's just a minute's walk down a hill to the lake side. A few restaurants and bars/pubs are also within a minute's walk. The hotel was painfully stuck in the 1970s communist era and the foyer/bar seating had seen much better days. The food was reasonable and with a fairly good choice - the waiting staff were excellent. However, the bar and reception staff weren't so obliging and quite often requests were met with grumpy reluctance! Rooms were average and the single rooms were very small but we didn't spend a lot of time in them so they were adequate for a short stay. Obviously the price reflects the standard of hotel and I think if we returned I'd pay a bit extra and stay at the Best Western Premier Hotel Lovec further round the lake. I was surprised that there wasn't more shopping or facilities geared to the tourist as Bled is supposed to be Slovenia's prime tourist location - it took less than an hour to wonder around the few shops lakeside and they weren't that interesting! However, when we visited in December it was covered in snow and this made up for any shortfalls the hotel or resort may have had - the scenery was absolutely breathtaking!

We stayed one night at the Jelovica in July. I loved looking out of the window and following what was going on outside.

Our room was most likely newly renovated, because it had a new feel to it. We had one room with a double bed and an adjoining smaller room with one single bed which was great for our daughter. I really liked the room.

The breakfast room is quite Soviet style as is the lobby. I didn't find the breakfast very appealing.

There is hotel parking outside, although the spaces are a bit small!

The lake is just down the hill and so breathtakingly beautiful. The Castle Bathing Area is also a short walk away and the kids loved it.

If I ever go to Bled again, I will choose another accommodation.

  • Liked — The new rooms.
  • Disliked — The Soviet style in the lobby and restaurant.

We have just returned from a great week in Bled, the hotel was good, very clean and the staff were fantastic, they could not do enough for us.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, there were posher ones but the price reflected this.
We met many other guests with whom we had some good crack, the entertainment whilst dinner was served was varied and enjoyable especially the slovanian dancers.
The lake is about a minute away.
There were good choices at both breakfast and dinner. Hot water was plentiful, the staff put flowers in our room for our pearl wedding anniversary, a nice touch.
Would stay there again

Beds were very comfortable, perhaps new? Small room but efficient with closet & shelves, hanging hooks, & small safe (which we could not operate and front desk couldn't either). Room was warm but resolved with opening the door & window to small balcony. We faced away from lake and at first were miffed but then realized we had a great view of town life. Watched townsfolk coming & going to nearby bus station, men pruning their fruit trees, women preparing their gardens, kids walking from school.....this all turned into a wonderful window on regular life in a resort town.
Bath was updated with small marble euro-style sink and shelf for toiletries. Heated towelrack was great for drying hand-washed items. Shower was quarter-round style and small but with good water pressure and nice toiletries. Lots of hot water.
Everything was spotless in the room. Carpet good.
Public areas just ok, and the bar really is whimsical, no schedule whatsoever. Good thing, beers were way expensive, just go around the corner for a beer or wine.
Had one dinner and it was waves of food - started with a very good mushroom soup, followed by stuffed alfredo pasta, a very fresh salad, then mixed meat dish & potatoes & spinach.....fresh fruit and ice cream for dessert. Breakfasts were plentiful and we were wowed until we had even fresher ones elsewhere. We loved the heated coffee cups and chocolate-spread pastries. Eggs were strange but the fresh meats and cheese were great especially if you made them panini style on the press. Blueberry juice! Fresh fruit and cereals and yogurt. One morning they served the local specialty cremna rezsa pastry, do try it.
We agree, staff was aloof, but we didn't require much of them.
We would stay here again unless we won a lottery and price was of no matter.

This hotel is OK overall, but has some great ups and some big downs!

The rooms are fantastic - if you request a lake view room you will get one of the recently renovated rooms which are great - they are spacious and nicely decorated and have powerful showers - just what is needed after a days activities! The hairdryers in the rooms are also really good and the TV has a good selection of channels. The staff are also very friendly and helpful which is a big plus for any hotel.

On the down side - the bar and the restaurant are not the best. The food is bland and not very well presented. There is also a very limited choice. The bar area is also very cold and does not open past 11pm. You may also find you have a lot of difficulty in charging anything to your room so do bring cash with you if you plan to spend much time there. The hotel is very hot but this can be fixed in your room by simply turning off the radiators.

All in all, this hotel is great as a base if you are planning on doing a lot of activities. It is close to the town (about 5 minutes walk) and has some great restaurants and bars within a few yards (I can recommend the pizza restaurant to the left as you exit the front of the hotel and the Irish bar - Pub Bled - just down the hill to the right of the hotel). The views are also amazing. If you want a relaxing break that involves spending a lot of time in the hotel though - you would probably be better off somewhere else.

  • Liked — Great rooms and great location
  • Disliked — Restaurant offering was not great and the bar was very limited

This hotel is in dire need of renovation and adjustment to western 21st cent. standards. Location is great and the prices are OK. The room was tiny and as in the entire place it had a "soviet styled" decoration. They charge you for internet usage and that's quite annoying. For one or two days stay this hotel is OK.
