If you happen to be in Lubljana, capital of Slovenia, or even Zagreb, capital of Zagreb, it is worth swinging by this little gem at the foot of the Julian Alps. Lake Bled is as pretty as Lago Como without the tourist trap or snobbishness. If fact, it is cute as a button with emerald green water. We arrived in the late afternoon and took an easy stroll around the lake in 2.5 hours while taking 100 pictures of the church on the center island and the castle hanging on the cliff under the setting sun. The next dawn, another circle with 100 pictures under the sunrise. Then we drove 30 km inland and took a cable car up to have a view of Lake Boninj, a larger pretty lake. Then we drove back to have picnic by Lake Bled to see it under the full sun, another pretty scenery. We could have stayed there for 1 week but if you are short of time, soak up one day's worth to last a life time.
