“Great view, friendly staff, hot breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago via mobile

As the other reviewers mention, this is an older hotel. It definitely shows some signs of wear and tear, but it has old world charm and the bathrooms are more recently (10-15 years) updated.

We had a lake view suite because we were getting married and it had a fabulous view and a nice sitting room. The breakfast was good and includes your choice of hot items, such as sausages, for no additional cost.

We also had our wedding reception in the Presidential Lounge and the food blew us away. If you can eat dinner here, do it. It's not cheap, but it's fabulous.

The view will blow you away, and makes it worthwhile to stay here. Get a room with a lake view and a balcony. That said, it's on a busy road, there's no town to speak of, and the hotel is faded. The other choices are the Tito place but its view is not as direct, and Triglov which is a great facility but without the commanding lake view of the castle. It's less than an hour from the capital, and only half hour from the airport. Next time, instead of driving two hours to stay at the Otecec castle, we will proceed up to the Alps and the vineyards which are supposed to be quite scenic, and then circle back to the airport. All in all, Slovenia is a beautiful country, well-worth the visit -- for the scenery, food and wine.

Dear Valued Guest

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for choosing the Grand Hotel Toplice for your stay in magical Bled. We were truly delighted to have You as our valued guests and appreciate both your appraisal of the central location and the picturesque views the hotel offers as well as the constructive feedback you kindly provided, which will serve as valuable contribution as well as a guideline for us to better our services in the future.

We sincerely regret to have learned about your disappointment with the interior furnishings of the Grand Hotel Toplice. In light of this iconic building with a very rich and colourful history as well as unique architecture, being one of the oldest buildings of its kind in Bled, unfortunately its functionality could not be compared to its more modern counterparts. Nonetheless, we would like to advise you that the hotel managements is putting forward its best efforts to upkeep all the original fixtures and furnishings of the building to ensure a more modern appeal. We are pleased to advise you that this fall the planned restoration process has commenced on the façade of the Grand Hotel Toplice, one of the most iconic historic buildings at Lake Bled. We anticipate for this important and delicate work to be completed by the 1st of December 2014. We therefore, sincerely hope that you will consider on visiting us again in the near future to witness the improvements in person and enjoy yet again, the majestic views the hotel offers.

We are sincerely pleased to know that you have become a great admirer of the magical town of Bled and Slovenia at large and are happy to share your thoughts and recommendations to the travellers, who are yet to explore Slovenia and its picturesque scenery.

We sincerely look forward to hearing from you and welcome you to the GHT in the nearest future. Until then I remain,

Yours sincerely,

the lake side has been redone, and they are now working on the front. Definitely get a lake view until the construction stops. Staff is very helpful, and it feels like something out of the 1920's. A lot of famous people have stayed here. It is very convenient to downtown without being in the crowds. Very good breakfast . Also stop by the bar at night. The lake views are amazing

The hotel used to be one of the top Slovenian hotels in old times. It has best location in Bled and some of the best views on the island in the middle and old castle high above on the cliff.

I spent just 2 days there and I can confirm that there still is certain charm in it. Especially when you open the doors to the balcony in the morning and inhale the fresh air comming in with early morning breez.

The rooms are ok, nicely decorated (old stile) and remind you on old Austrian imperium. There is some room for improvement (beds are very narrow, doors to the balcony need refurbishment, shower in the bath has exremly short tube-line,...).

The service is average. Reception staff is OK, but in the breakfast area, service was bad. I had to wait almost to the end of my breakfast to get a coffee. Also the food selection was poor. There was good variaty but everything was squeezed on small plates (6 different cheeses on small plat smashed together and same with salamies). A big room for improvement.

Major positive things related to food - 2 restaurants - Panorama and Julijana.... give it a try you will not be disapointed. Dinner in Julijana was outstanding.

Room Tip: Definitely take room with lake view and top floor....

I visited this hotel during Christmas in 2005!

As it was so long ago, I'll describe my experience from a child's point of view.
The first thing that caught my eye was the ivies which were spread across the wall of the entrance. Though unusual, it was pretty at that time of the year.
The staff at the reception was very polite and did their best to quickly help us into our rooms. They later took the time to recommend us some local "must see" places.
I do remember that we had a old fashioned, deluxe and extremely clean room with lake view (which I totally recommend). Seriously, if you still have doubts whether to take a regular or a lake view room, stop thinking about it and take the second choice.
So, after going around the room and putting stuff here and there, I just had to test the bed. And as every kid would have done, I just jumped on it! Ladies & Gentlemen, after so many years, I still remember how soft the bed and the pillows were. As the days went by, every time we came back from an excursion, the room was perfectly clean and the bedding as well as the towels were as good as new.
As for the restaurant of the hotel... Wow, that's something even my parents remember. The breakfast was nothing much. Just the usual 4-5 table buffet. Lunch and dinner on the other hand still are my No.1 motivation to re-visit that hotel. I think 99% of kids hate eating soup. Well, in that restaurant I not only had soup for lunch, I even asked to taste another one the next day... and the day after that... and... well you know drill. Even now if somebody asks me where I had the most tasteful soup in my life I'll say in Grand Hotel Toplice.
The only negative aspect was that even if the reception staff ensured us that the indoors pool had warm water, the result was actually the opposite. Seriously, it was December and I thought that the Lake's temperature must have been warmer than that pool's.
Generally the hotel offers such a pleasant stay at Lake Bled that I still recommend it to every one going to Slovenia. The prices corresponded to the hotels accommodations, the location of the hotel was easy to reach and (the most important part) even if you get there during the most cold season (as we did), you'll still have an unforgettable experience.

We have been there for two nights. This is an old style 5 stars hotel, located at the edge of the lake with a private beach. The room we had was wide and clean, and we enjoyed very much the lake side view. Breakfast was excellent. Very close to the center of the town, with limited parking places for the guests. Free Wi-Fi connection. Friendly stuff.

Room Tip: Ask for the lake side view. It coast more then the non lake side view.

A long drive from the Austrian alps brought us to Slovenia's Lake Bled. We booked a suite months ahead of time and were told that all that was available was a suite. It was very reasonably priced and I was very happy with the outcome. We received a semi friendly welcome at the check out, but were very pleased with the accommodations. It was more like a junior suite with a small sofa and two chairs around a coffee table, but it was located on a high floor with a balcony on one side and a terrace on the other-since this was a corner room. I was thrilled. We had two very different views and the balcony and the terrace were completely private. This seemed over the top luxurious- not the room so much- but the views. We had views of both, the famous castle as well as the little Island with the picturesque church. I think this is the best you can get in Bled, I liked the look of the hotel better in person then on the internet. The bathroom was nice and clean, lots of marble and a big tub. The hotel is directly on the lake with a nice walkway around it and you can exit directly out of breakfast or dinner for a stroll by the lake. They have a very nice spa facilities and a very nice pool, but those things I prefer to do at home.
The hotel has a very good and classy restaurant for dinner as well as breakfast. There was hotel parking available just few steps from the entrance.
It is in some ways an elegant hotel but then you look around some more and notice the old feel - leftover from the communist era.
All in all, we felt that the views, the lake, the little Island and the rowboats all made it worthwhile to visit Bled and stay in this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms with views of the lake
