3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2013

We stayed here twice, upon arriving in Warsaw and then on our way from Bialowieza to Wrocklaw. Hostel Tamka is close to Old Town and major bus/tram lines, so the location is great. There was a lot of street noise outside our first dorm on the 1st floor, the lockers were tiny, and there were only 2 bathrooms for the whole floor. Our second dorm on the 3rd floor was much more quiet and there were more bathrooms... much nicer overall. The breakfast is good for the "night before" price. Staff are generally friendly and helpful. Towels are small so bring your own!

Room Tip: Request a 3rd floor bed!

...What killed it for me is lack of cleanliness. The place has fairly new appliances so it photographs well. But a dorm of 8 backpackers can trash a place in minutes - so imagine how bad it is when obviously no one has cleaned the shower and toilet areas in a very long time. Sure the kitchen is clean but I'm sorry that's not good enough. I'm moving to another hostel...

I decided to visit Poland and this was where I stayed. I arrived at 2am and was greeted by the receptionist who spoke good English. The bed was ok although it did need repairing underneath. The cleanliness was good and the hostel had cleaners come in every morning. It also has a communual area and kitchen which were adequate for a hostel of this size. The hostel is also conveniently located near to the city centre. All in all a good value hostel which is well worth a visit for those on a budget.

I have been with friends in Tamka Hostel and I'd like to inform tourists about the following problems seen: no curtains in one room and noise in the other room (street) so that we did not sleep. No towels given, small dirty one at request. Dusty floor. Hard bed. Wireless present but not always working in each floor. Very poor breakfast (to be paid a part) and moreover people have to clean dishes and use dishes used (and washes) by others.
Price is low but at the same price we paid a e stars hotels. Receptionists are young guys and ladies and kind enough. Good position in the city but just for teenagers with vet few expectations.

Very good location, easy to get to from airport by bus and walkable from central station. Close to supermarkets, shops, the old town, everything really.

The hostel is basic, the staff are nice but it's not a place to go of you like hostels which organise nights out/events etc. Rooms are ok but you can escape the noise of the busy street if that's done thing that bothers you.

Showers are great, lots of hot water.

Breakfast is 5pln for cereal, breads, meat, cheese and tea/coffee.

Altogether a good stay for a very cheap price

To be honest rooms and service are OK, but if you want to simply book a night in here and just don't worry about your trip anymore, this is the wrong place and you should stay away from it.
I've been here once and I was lucky then, because their booking software had crashed so my reservation was invalid, but they've got some beds available and they simply put me into another room and everything was fine.
I've booked a bed one more time for another trip and 2 days before my stay they called me to tell me that their software had crashed and my reservation was unnoticedly overwrote at someone's book and my reservation is invalid, beacuase they have no beds left and this is the best way to solve this problem.
Well let me tell you something, if you're not able to buy some efficient booking software, maybe paper notebook and a pen would be a solution for you and it wouldn't take you more than week to find out and tell 2 days before sommeone's arriving, there's a collision. How about that?
If you want to avoid problems with your trip at the beginning, just stay away from here.

Room Tip: Stay away!

Good location, very cheap, few steps away from nice coffee shops and etc.
Would recommend the place for budget travelers.
However the beds are not the best, old bed-sheets, but for the price it's ok. I had no idea there was also breakfast at the hostel, although I stayed there 3 days. That's a good thing.
The city itself is very warm and nice, would go there again for sure.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
There's no doubt that the Tatamka hostel stands out above other accommodation in Warsaw. One of the biggest advantages is its superb location - the building is just around the corner from the most popular streets in the city, Nowy Swiat and Krakowskie Przedmiescie, and a short 15 minute walk from the Old Town. What does this mean? Put simply, you are within staggering distance of countless clubs, bars, pubs and restaurants.Other attractions of the capital city are also nearby: the business centre, shopping malls and numerous monuments - the Royal Baths included! With all these attractions around, you probably won't just be hanging round the hostel. That being said, it's good to know what this place has to offer: private rooms for 1, 2, 3 or 4 people (with or without bathrooms) as well as single places in bigger rooms: for 6, 8 and 10 people. We take care that the type of room and furnishings of the hostel suit each visitor - although the classical backpacker is well catered for because hostels are made primarily for them. That's why you'll find, amongst other things:- A common room with DVD player - an ideal place to relax and have a chat,- Free internet access (as well as wireless internet connection),- A fully-equipped kitchen,- Free coffee and tea,- Barbeque facilities.Because of the varied standards of our rooms and the many services provided on the hostel premises, our satisfied guests are also varied - foreign tourists visiting Warsaw, businessmen, organized groups and conference participants. Not only backpackers feel at home here! ... more   less
