Owner description: After being leveled when the Nazis left, this whole neighborhood of cobblestone Gothic streets and alleyways, baroque palaces, numerous churches and tiered burghers' houses were masterfully reconstructed to reflect the atmosphere of bygone days.

“The newest old town in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

Warsaw old town is absolutely unique and it's hard to compare it to the other ones because of its history. It was completely destroyed (better word is "smashed") by German Nazi army after the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. 10 years after the government decide to rebuild the old town in detail to the original view and character from XVII/XVIII.
Plenty of restaurants, polish cousines, coffees, galeries and famous monuments (Sigmunt Column,Royal Castle). Excellent start to other warsaw atractions such as National Theatre, PKiN, Royal Route, Royal Łazienki Park and so on. Worth mentioning about summer jazz festiwal "Jazz on Old Town".

“Rebuilt but with taste”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

There is a danger that visiting Warsaw's Old Town could feel like a trip to Disney given that it was rebuilt after the second world war. Luckily the cleaver reuse of original materials and photographs to get the architecture correct has avoided this and the result is beautiful rather than tacky. It is equally good covered in snow whilst visiting the Christmas Market or when enjoying a drink in the sunshine on a hot summer day. There is not much to do here other than relax and take in the scenery and atmosphere, but that is enough to make it worth visiting.
