“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013 via mobile

A good hotel which from the outside looks a bit rundown but inside it has been modernised. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was soft and would have allowed for a good nights sleep were it not for traffic noise drifting up from the street. The hotel is in a good location with lots of restaurants and coffee houses in close proximity. The Internet was unreliable and when I closed my ipad I would have to log in with password etc every time. Quite odd I thought. The service within the hotel was very good. I would definitely stay there again and Warsaw is such a fascinating city to visit.

*Good location if you need to explore Warsaw.
*Breakfast was very good with lot of variety. View from breakfast lounge was amazing
*Staff was friendly
*Only problem is noise from street vehicles, trams if you are concerned about it. If you want to enjoy city and its vibrancy this won't be problem for you.
*Wifi signal strength was very good and worked very good for first two days and stopped working on our last day.
* We booked double room which had two twin beds as king bed. But when checked in we found there were two separate beds. Hotel Staff solved this problem in 10 minutes and joined two beds.

I stayed in the MDM almost nine years ago, between a holiday in the Czech Republic and an England game in the industrial wasteland that is (or was) Katowice. Then, it was great value. Quiet room at the back, a yummy breakfast buffet which set the benchmark for 'comprehensive' - served in the old ballroom - and not far from the train station.
In May 2013 though, I left much less content ... and very tired.
My second-floor room overlooked the street, and although it had double-glazing, it wasn't up to much. Traffic noise in the evening, revving motorbikes and cars into the early hours, even the sound of passing drunks in mid-song just wafted through the glass. Weariness eventually forced my eyes to close, but at 6am, the traffic noise was once more rumbling through my room.
Internet access (as others have said) was confusing and complex, so even though I enjoyed the breakfast - now served on the sixth floor, in crisp and contemporary surroundings, I left for Chopin Airport in a less than sunny mood.
Sure, it is a great location, the rooms are large and spotless, and it's not overly expensive, but the night-time noise alone means I won't be completing my hat-trick of visits to this monolith.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms which overlook the streets, and go higher if possible.

Old large Soviet era downtown hotel, outside crumbling, inside degraded but clean. Creaky tiny elevators. Rooms quite large, very clean linens, reasonably appointed with desk and chair, bureau, ample closet space, alcove with loveseat, and table and chairs by two large windows that open. No air conditioning. Bathroom has no tub, and when I asked for a room with a tub, I was informed that NONE of the rooms have tubs, only showers.
What is noticeably lacking are amenities: no iron or board, no coffeepot, no soap in the bathroom (!) and no washcloths, for goodness' sake, and I even asked today for a couple to be provided; none were. Carpets thin and stained, but cleaned and vacuumed. I asked for a room with a view and got one, on the top (5th) floor, looking out the long main avenue (the back rooms overlook the crumbling and tawdry back wings and alleyway).
The hotel is perfectly OK, the linens on the beds were spotless. Just don't expect it to meet modern European or American standards. For a Soviet hotel, it's great; for a previously Soviet hotel, it's fine. There was a safe at the main desk for my laptop when I went out. The mini-bar had Sutter Home white wine (go figure). All in all, a perfectly OK place to stay in Warsaw, although next time I'll go with an international hotel.
I usually like to stay in a more local place, but this MDM hotel showed the downside of that. The wifi you have to buy cheaply for your entire stay, and it works fine, but you have to log in again every time you close your laptop or if you're off for 1/2 hour, which gets annoying.
A Washcloth and soap would have made a big difference here; sometimes the small things really add up. No fitness center or pool, of course. There were a hair salon (skipped that) and a bistro where we had drinks in the evening and the breakfast buffet.
OK, let me add that the breakfast buffet was fabulous. In fact, over many trips to various EU capitals and other places, and around AU, as well as all over the US, Canada, etc, this was - hands-down - the best and most extensive and elaborate breakfast buffet I've ever encountered. Being on a calorie budget, I skipped 99% of it, settling for tea, yogurt, and fresh orange and grapefruit slices, which were wonderfully juicy and sweet. Others in my party dove in and said it was all really really good.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor with a view.

I cannot but admit that the location of the hotel was amazing: within walking distance to everywhere in the city centre and some very hip cafes nearby. The overall thing (breakfast, service, personnel, cleanliness) were very decent considering the price of almost 77 euros a day that came out for me.
What really tortured me was the procedure for the internet. I was there on a business trip so internet was totally necessary but also for personal reasons. I had a mac, an iPad and an iPhone. to have internet for these 3 devices, i had to ask for 3 different username/passwords. They also had a limited duration of 2 days. Since i stayed there 4 days, I had to ask for another 3 username/passwords! The most disturbing thing of all however was the fact that if you even thought of closing the lid of your laptop, there was an immediate connection failure and then you had to write username/password again from the beginning as the possibility for the devices to "remember" them was not an option. And don't think that the username/password was something easy to write each time - look at an example: username - 22r7@MDM password - vbx5e577

We were generally very happy with this hotel. The position is great, but of course that means it is noisy. There was no air conditioning working so we had to have a window open. The room was very spacious and clean, with a pleasant bathroom. On the first night we had a group dinner, which was very disappointing in quality, but the next day the breakfast buffet was superb!

Room Tip: See if you can get a room that does not face the square.
