Pluses:
-nice location
-nice service
-clean rooms
-friendly personnel
-good breakfast
-free wi-fi(but only if you stay in old building)

Minuses:
-the entrance to the new building which has a lot of rooms and which you are supposed to stay in is a bit long and even complicated especially when you try to find it for the first time
-no wi-fi in the new building - the Internet is available only through LAN-cable which actually connects to a socket not so good and you need to adjust it from time to time when you suddenly lose connection

This hotel is excellent. If you take the 175 bus from Chopin Airport to Nowy Swiat, getting off at Ordynacka stop. Its on the wall of the bus inside and counts the stops down.It only costs 4.40 ZLN, roughly £1. Journey is exactly half an hour. Then cut through Varecka Street opposite the bus stop and walk for 5 minutes till you arrive at the hotel on the left.
The hotel is beautiful inside. Staff at reception are very helpful. Rooms are tastefully done, and we had a room facing Palace of Culture building which looked magnificent. The hotel itself is centrally located and you can easily reach the railway station within 10 minutes walk.Breakfast is great with food plentiful. We went to the big mall behind the station, which has everything you want. The food hall is outstanding serving most foods from KFC to Greek. If you turn left out of the hotel, down the steps, then left again, past the casino. Cross the small road then cross over to the right. You will see Sphinx Bar & Grill. Just before that, you will see a small asian restaurant called Spring Roll. Food is wonderful, and very very reasonable in price. 2 Course meal, bowl of rice, with a pint of lager and a coke costs just over £11.50....with the tip! Excellent food. we also found a small bar/cafe/restaurant in Chmielna Street opp Spring Roll about 50 yds up called Cevac I think just on the right. superb food. We also found Secret Garden which is number 24-26 Novy Swiat, cutting through the small alley you will see these unusual bars but are fabulous to go into. Go into Klapps round the other side. Boobs on the wall and vibrators for beer pumps. Very good bar and staff. Not seedy at all. We also visited Palace of Culture building and Museum of Technology, which were also fab. Hard Rock Cafe by the mall is well worth a visit. Marcin the manager is a great host. Ale a bit pricey but well worth a look just for the memorabillia.

I do not know which part of the hotel we were in new or old, the room was 3rd floor straight up in the lift from reception. It wasnot the cheapest smallest room, just one grade up (size of room)
The room was great, nicely decorated , great bathroom , everything we needed (except a kettle -but we are british and like our cuppa). The matresses are old but clean and the rooms were serviced every day (not something you get everywhere)
Reception was good , spoke good english and very helpful, quick check ins and outs.
Breakfast was good with plenty of choice, cereal, bacon/eggs/sausage cold meats and veg etc as well as fruit juice tea and coffee. Personally I don't like streaky bacon and would have preferred more croissants etc but this is eastern europe and not France or Spain. It was very good.

Only warning is do not jaywalk, use the crossings/underpasses and wait at the lights.

We had one issue on the last night when our room lock broke, but the security got in and gave us another room without question. All very pleasant.

The Gromada Dom Chlopa is a centrally located hotel (the Novy Swiat Street is a 3 minute walk to the east and the Palace of Culture and Science a 5 minute walk to the west) which unfortunately suffers from very dated rooms.

I seriously doubt they replaced any of the furniture or even the mattresses within the last 20 years. Particularly the very worn out mattresses also affected my sleep quality negatively.
Overall the rooms really felt like a throwback to the communist 70s.

The elevator in the lobby has to be the slowest one I've ever encountered anywhere on this planet, which is saying something. Even worse, someone obviously put enormous amounts of lubricating oil on its hydraulic parts and this disgusting smell is spreading through all hotel corridors.

Overall the hotel certainly does not have the standards you expect from a 3-star hotel.

OK - the surroundings aren't pretty but you can't beat this hotel for location and price.

Positives:
A speedy check-in. One signature and a few keystrokes on the computer and that was it! Way to go! A few minutes walk from the Palace of Culture. Has a small restaurant downstairs (which at first appearance resembles a children's playroom!) and a good-priced bar that serves hot snacks and cold beer/vodka and operates very generous opening hours! Very friendly barstaff but found the restaurant staff a bit cool. No problem with the Warsaw winter - hotel is over-heated! Thankfully, room radiators can be turned off. Didn't notice any air-con though so might be stifling in summer. Nice big lobby (all the better for checking-in tour groups). Free Wi-Fi and a choice of smoking accomodation. OK sized room/bathroom for a capital city. Very patient room service staff - room was always serviced daily no matter what time we vacated it. (Not always a given in some hotels!) Excellent price for airport transfer (when booked at Reception).Great, mad Indian restaurant nearby ("Bollywood") - has karaoke. Has to be seen/heard to be believed!

Negatives:
Wi-Fi access code had to renewed daily. You have to line up at Reception every day for a brand new code - a real bind especially as Reception was woefully understaffed (and husband was keen to keep up with the sporting action at home). Hotel is very popular with tour/conference groups (hence big lobby!). Lots of noise at night from so-called adults letting off steam. Hotel is large. We kept finding new wings and corridors. It is spread over two blocks so there was lots of door-banging, shouting and noisy suitcase wheels trundling along corridors. Only one elevator - very, very slow! No tea/coffee making facilties in room. No fridge either. TV choice was limited. Only one English language channel - Euronews.

Despite thes gripes, we enjoyed our stay. Definitely worth 4 stars. Just wished that they would allow Wi-Fi access for length of stay. Oh and a free city map would be nice too.

Room Tip: The new wing is quieter as you are away from the generator.

and not in a good way. Unless you stay in the more expensive, new part you are subject to dated decor and old budget furniture and fittings. Bathrooms are pretty shocking as well. Only stayed there for one night and thanked God it was only for one night. Don't know how they got their 3 star rating as I stayed in a one star hotel in Warsaw before that boasted much higher standard than this! Avoid like a plague!
