So, what do you want from a hotel for a family reunion / city break?
The Sofitel Victoria provided good value, competitive prices, decent sized rooms and a pool which was a perfect escape. The hotel is undergoing refurbishment (there was some drilling going on), and so will improve further: the breakfast restaurant was stylish and served an excellent breakfast. Every member of staff was courteous, helpful and spoke good English.
The location is perfect for exploring the city on foot, half way between the Old Town and Nowy Swiat, with good access to principal sites, and if you don't want to walk, the tour bus stops outside the hotel every hour (our party ranged from 7 to 83 years of age!).
Some of the decor is a little dated, but this is being addressed: refurbished areas were light and airy. It would be a good idea if the refurbishment included a few family rooms.
Overall we had a great stay.

i stayed at the hotel 5 days at May 2013. actually at the last week of the month. the weather was a litle bit rainy but it did't disturb to much to walk around and enjoy the city.
the hotel is neat and has a very good breakast, a very good (beautifull) swiming pool and a nice sauna. so, what you need more? o'key, you want to see the city! so, the hotel is located next to the saxonian park and the defilade square where the tomb of the unknow soldier is.
just accros the square is the warsaw opera building. at the back side of the hotel you can get to the most beautifull streets of warsaw, the krakowskie przedmiescie which leads yo to the old city, and to the nowy swiat street that is the heart beat of the city; the university is there, and along the street many elegant shops, bars, restaurants, and many people around, very, very, lively.
all this close to the hotel.
the staff is ready to help you at any time. and very important to know: at night, they are staff members that are in charge to keep the hotel quiet so you can sleep quietly.
anyway, it's a nice hotel to stay and enjoy warsaw.

Room Tip: i think that the front rooms are nicer since they have an open view.

I stayed at Sofitel Victoria for one night after having my flight cancelled and being forced to stay one additional night in Warsaw. This was my first time at Sofitel Victoria and I am convinced I will not return unless there is no other hotel available. In a nutshell, it is a very old hotel and it simply needs serious refurbishment. All amenities and facilities in the standard room are very basic and date back to the early '90 (at least). The lobby is not impressive and the check-in stands are quite small. My room (662) was facing construction site however I left early in the morning and cannot tell if this causes any disturbance to the guests accommodated on this side of the hotel.

On the plus side: the hotel is located right next to the Old Town making it very convenient venue for tourists visiting Warsaw. Not necessarily the best hotel though for those who are there in business unless your meetings are in the Old Town or at Plac Pilsudskiego. Also, worth mentioning that there is a refurbishment planned in the coming months so hopefully the quality level will pick up.

There are plenty of better options in Warsaw: InterContinental, Westin, Radisson, Bristol, Sheraton, Novotel, Mercure etc.

All four couples staying at the Sofitel agreed that the hotel was top quality. The rooms were well fitted out and the staff were very efficient. It is also in a perfect location for walking to the Old Town and for walking back to the modern centre.
