“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

The Mercure Warszawa Grand is an excellent hotel in a great location. It is clean and modern and the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Our room was fairly large and very comfortable and it was kept spotlessly clean. It had a TV, safe, aircon, minibar, tea & coffee facilities, a desk and a couple of easy chairs. The Wifi signal was strong and stable in the room. The bathroom had a large shower but no bath and I’m not sure if I liked the glass wall between the shower and the rest of the room but there is a curtain though that can be pulled across. The hotel has lots of services including a business centre, internet room, bar and a fitness centre. Breakfast was very good with a wide range of tasty hot and cold food.

The location was great, not far from central station and there were lots of, bars, restaurants and good shopping nearby. The distance to the old town was walkable but we got a 3 day public transport ticket so got the bus and tram everywhere. Bus, tram and metro stops are a few minutes walk from the hotel.

Thanks to a tip previous reviewer we took the 175 bus from outside Chopin airport arrivals to the bus stop called DH Smyk which is at the end of the street the hotel is on. It’s only a couple of Zloty each and there is a display on the bus which calls out the next stop.

I recently stayed 4 nights at this hotel as a solo traveler. The rooms are modern but mine was very small. The staff was friendly and competent and the breakfast was good. The major disadvantage of this hotel is the free WiFi. Basically it doesn'work in the room. I complained to the customer relations desk and this apparently has been a frequent complaint. The Mercure can do better.

The location was central to everything we wanted to do. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and provided a good nights sleep. We had no noise issues. No complaints, will stay there again.

This is a lovely hotel that is conveniently located for the centre of “new” Warsaw (about 5 minutes walk away), including the central train and metro stations and one of the main tram junctions.

It’s a little less conveniently located for the historic old town, where the majority of sights are, but they are only a short tram ride away.

Internally the rooms were modern and of a very high quality. Beds were comfortable and the bathroom was well equipped.

I had a snack in the bar on the one evening I was there and the service and quality of the food was excellent.

Positives:
Comfort
Staff

Negatives:
Location (if you are visiting the Old Town)

This is a very modern hotel and although travelling with a group, check-in was very efficient. The room was comfortable and met our needs. All the staff was very friendly and welcoming and the concierge gladly made reservations at the restaurant of our choice and supplied directions.

The lobby bar was nice and the bartenders were friendly and accommodating. They even made us vodka and tonics with limes at our request! Breakfast had plenty of choices and healthy options were available also.

The location was very convenient to restaurants and shops and there was a large mall across the street.

I chose the hotel based on the very good or excellent reviews. Sorry, this one will be below par.

Granted, the hotel itself keeps the Mercure standard, no doubt about it. However:

There is a casino, supposedly not being part of the hotel, located in the north wing on the first floor, which is currently (May 29-June 1) being renovated. It involves some heavy machinery, pneumatic hammers and drilling in concrete. I was not informed about that by the staff during the check-in, and duly got a room on the second floor, directly above the works. You can imagine the not so nice surprise I got when I tried to sleep off the jet lag after a transatlantic flight!

Once I complained about the noise on the next day, I was offered a room in another wing. Good. However, the hotel was far from fully booked (the offer of another room confirmed it), so I don't consider putting me in a room directly over the cursed casino as a friendly act.

Room Tip: Anywhere but in the north wing, and high enough not to hear the construction noise.
