“a must!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

I expected a boring description of the painting - instead, the commentary had just the right mix of historical/art elements and the Panorama itself is absolutely impressive, mostly due to its '3D' effect (stretching the painting towards the viewer). The viewings are held every half an hour so you don't have to wait for a free spot too long!

“A magnum opus apparently misunderstood by previous reviewers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

The Panaroma Radcławicka is a nationally-famous Polish relic. It depicts the Battle of Radcławice, an important episode of the Kościuszko Uprising (against Czarist Russia) which is considered a major military feat by Tadeusz Kościuszko, a seminal figure in both Polish and American history (he assisted Washington in winning the Revolutionary War and founded West Point). The Panorama is also a genius work of art, created in the "history painting"-style made pioneered in Poland by Matejko and others. Furthermore, the painting's history itself is also interesting. Created in Lwów (now L'viv, Ukraine), a formerly Polish city of great importance to Poland before the post-WWII boundaries, it was hidden in a Benedictine monastery during the War and moved to the most important city of the new territories (Wrocław) after, where it was hidden from public view by the new authorities because it depicted a Polish military victory against Russia.

The confluence of the work's quality as well as its thorough depiction of the bravery and tactical genius of the Polish insurrectionists is what makes the Panorama truly unique and unmissable. It brings a sense of immediacy to the battle that hasn't been duplicated by any other battle painting anywhere. The translation to English offered by the audioguide (free with the price of admission) is also almost perfect (indeed, the only thing wrong is that the native English-speaking narrator mispronounces a Polish name or two), and the audioguide is also available in French, Russian, and a host of other languages.

I would say that it's worth a trip to Wrocław just to see the Panaroma. If you happen to be going there anyway, please see it.

“Panorama of Raclawic Battle”

This is a VERY poplar tourist stop. It is very interesting to see the painting, and what went into the exhibit, but from the historical perspective it didn't do anything for me. But please note I'm not into military history, and I'm not from Poland.

“Worth a visit.”

A good attraction well kept and really well organized. Translators available for foreigners in different languages. Small children can find it boring, but visit lasts only 30 minutes .

Do not miss this experience - definitely worth a visit. Difficult to see where the picture ended and the 3D experience began.
