Description: This restaurant is located in the center of the main square and main tourist attraction of Wroclaw. Looks very interesting and welcoming from outside however when you decide to eat there it is a big disapointment. Very bad quality of food and service. You can find some negative reviews of this restaurant on other travel directories. I think this shall be presented here as a warning for all foreign tourists to avoid this place. Great location and good outlook seems to be a trap which can destroy your holidays in such beautiful place as Wroclaw.

“Nice Restaurant in Center of Wroclaw”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Lots of atmosphere and history as you dine in the basement of the Ratusz (old city hall)- Food and service were very good too. Check it out for lunch, dinner or a drink and snack.

“A Charming Spot in Beautiful Wroclaw - A Must See”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2012

Visited during the height of the Euro football competition that was hosted by Wroclaw it was remarkably easy for a party of 4 to get a seat. In fact we were the only people in the place. It being a Sunday and everyone watching football in the bars of square would explain that! It is in the Old Town of Wroclaw - and it is dripping with history and tradition.

Reported to be one of the oldest restaurants in Europe, (Salzburg has a possible claim for that title!) it apparently dates back to the late 1200s and is set in the caverns underneath the majestic town hall of Wroclaw.

Wroclaw has seen many invaders down through the centuries and the city has a history that is rich and varied - the German for town hall is Rathaus a German wording that is etymologically echoed in the restaurant's location - Rynek Ratusz 1. What is also an interesting translation is the name of this restaurant - Piwo being Polish for beer and the restaurant's Piwnica name denotes that this is also home to a brewery.

There are long benches, where one can no doubt drink the taste of Wroclaw in a medieval style and indeed setting - there are old fashioned chandeliers and dining rooms and the ornamentation has a deliberately old fashioned look to it. There is also a bar where one can enjoy a pint of various brews.

And for essentials - menus are in English, French and German (and Polish of course) and service was efficient and friendly. Indeed one of the waitresses at one point performed a mini piano concert for us while we were there, on the piano in the next banquet hall - it added to what was a nice atmosphere. It also seems very safe - there was a suited security guard doing laps while were there - perhaps he was laid on for the Euro football tournament.

Also it was most likely the nicest meal I've ever eaten in Poland - and I have had quite a few of them! It's a must see!

“Impressive place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

This is a must-see place in Wroclaw! Right in the center of the central square and nicely placed in the cellar of a stunning building, this beer house carries some of the local history with it. Founded in 1273, it remained apparently a brewery continuously until today.
Everything else is simply a side note. Food and drinks and staff are all OK.

Do not miss it!

TIP: Do not forget to check and see the smallest restaurant in the world, nicely placed around the corner of the same building. There is only room for one small table inside, usually occupied by some lucky people...

“Ye olde world elegance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

What a find! Medieval banqueting halls; private rooms; a bar lifted from somewhere in the dark ages and wonderful staff with microbrewery beer. Does it come any better?
