“A grand old dame with a very modern twist”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

I spent one night in this hotel and loved it. As a regular business traveller it is great to find a gem amongst all the usual corporate hotels. From the outside, a Grand Old Dame, from the inside a minimalist modern quirky hotel with lofty high ceilings, big airy rooms, spa baths in your room and two amazing restaurants. The roof top Aquarios restaurant is modern nouvelle inspired cuisine which two 'far too young to be this good' chefs good small but amazingly tasty modern food. It's romantic, it's fun, it's quirky and it's not expensive compared to London prices. The other ground floor restaurant is all about traditional polish food in a modern way. very good too. This is a hotel worth staying in also for its history. Previous guest include Hitler! He apparently gave rousing speeches from the portico over the door when the town was still called Breslau and part of Nazi Germany. It's nothing to be proud of today but it all adds to the atmosphere of a wonderful hotel. I think it's also a romantic hotel for a lovely weekend away has lots to offer with its amazing town square, upmarket modern shopping malls and history.

Room Tip: Ask for non smoking and check it. Mind had a hint of being an ex smoking room!

I have visited Monopol again after few months and I can only confirm that is perfect hotel. Location, rooms, hotel atmosphere, bar, restaurant (slightly overpriced but located on the top floor with nie view) is great and very attentive, listening and not push service. At reception ,at bar, at Spa - really fantastic service. I look forward to visit Monopol again soon :)

Room Tip: 506 - nice surprise :)

Stayed at the Monopol for 3 nights in late March. Got upgraded to a very nice "apartment" room.

Pros -- hotel is inexpensive ($200 USD per night); SPA is very nice (dry sauna, steam room, pool); great location - two blocks from the town square; two blocks from the shopping mall and supermarket (in case you need water etc.). The Rynek is where all the good restaurants and historical sights are.

Cons - breakfast service was awful; tried to sit and have a drink at the rooftop restaurant and we were turned away.

Overall enjoyed the stay. Highly recommend Wroclaw for a visit. The Cathedral Island was charming.

I have been visited Wroclaw (business reason) several time last 3 years and for sure I could highlight that Monopol is the best option.
It's an old (refurbished) 5 star hotel that shows the "Polish" side of the city.
Service is outstanding, rooms are large and comfortable ...
Bar and restaurant is a little bit overpriced but the quality is unbelievable...
Every room that I stayed has a great tube with room view. The shower comes from the roof and it's great.
I recommend if you're looking for a 5 star polish style hotel ... and remember, history is there ... (Hitler stayed at this hotel) ...
Don't forget to sign the book at front desk ...

Room Tip: Ask for a room with tube's view.

Second time I am here ( it is a company approved hotel) and my rating will stay average.
This is not a 5 star hotel, maybe 4....
This time I even changed rooms; the room where I was located was just under the 6th floor restaurant and was very noisy because of that; restaurant guests laughing, talking, personal making lots of noise wth plates and putting on loud music once the resturant closes and they had to clean up. Recommendation: try to not get an odd number room on the 5th floor main building. When complaining I was given immediately an upgrade to another room, which was indeed nicer, but considering it was an upgrade where did the bathrobe, slippers and chocolates go that I did have in my 1st room? Not that it is that important, but it is surprising...

Positives:
- Room immediately changed when asking for another room
- Location, location, location, it is next to the main square
- Rooms are spacious as are the bathrooms, both my rooms had baths in both of them with hidrojets and lights

Negatives:
- Not enough light in the room
- Breakfast is not included any longer included in roomprice and is costing 70PLN, considering the choice there is, it is overpriced. Just behind the hotel you have several places where you can have a decent breakfast for 20 PLN or less.
- the downstairs bar in the hotel is allowing to smoke

Again dont expect the luxury of a 5 star hotel, because it isn't. If you want to chose this hotel it would be for the locaton.

Room Tip: Not the 5th floor main building just under the restaurant. Best part to be in is the annex building...

You may be 20, you may be 40, you may be 60 - Wrocław is a place to be. Like Mecca, at least once in your life. But once you are here you wish to come back. The longer you are the more you want to be back. I was there for more than 2 years:). Now when I'm back I have a pleasure to stay in Monopol.

It is unlike all those Hiltons or Marriots which are the same in Paris, Athens and Kuala Lumpur. You will find there bricks or concrete saute on the walls, your room may look slightly cold but after you stay 2 or 3 days you will appreciate all comforts it secures.

If the weather is OK do not miss a drink or at least coffee on a roof terrace. And smile - you are in Wroclove!

Excellent location, wonderful facilities, swimming pool, sauna and steam room all included as is breakfast. Well worth a visit. Staff very friendly, helpful and polite. Rooms very spacious, very nice bathroom. This hotel is the best I've stayed in when in Eastern Europe. Would highly recommend it.
