“Bad impression”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

That review would be a bit better if not what they did at the end of our stay. I stayed there with a group and they invited us to park our bus at the carpark. It was just a dirty gravel square behind some ruined building where I saw a few drunks hanging around in the evening. Carpark was guarded only at night. NO-ONE told us that there is charge, neither reception nor doormen. There was no information either. At the end they charged me 70PLN. However the hotel is located in the city centre, there are only construction sites in the neighbourhood at the moment (there is no info about that at their website). Noises woke me up even on early Saturday morning. It is dirty and dusty around. They call themselves a 5* hotel. From me: just 1*

On an East European tour, we went by bus to Zakopane—a rural town in the foothills of Poland’s Tatra Mountains, billed as the “winter capitol of Poland”; a favorite place for winter sports, and home to several ski and ski jumping schools.

This is a rural area with apparently a lot of wild game, as indicated by our rest break at a gas station on the way, near to Zakopane, where locals had several large pelts for sale hung up on clotheslines (I found a small wild boar pelt with a ruff of fur down its back particularly interesting).

Our hotel, Hotel Litwor, in Zakopane, was not a fancy, big city hotel but was, nonetheless, nice, and I found I liked their somewhat rustic décor and their dining room, with its interesting menu and good service. A little disconcerting, though, was the enormously wide and deep nearby excavation, a fenced off work site, within sight of the hotel, where they were doing some sort of major sewer (?) work; it looked like a large bomb crater.

Of interest in this town, outside of things winter sport and ski –related, were their large, sprawling market, where you will find not only the usual handcrafts, and fresh fruits and vegetables, but many booths selling their very tasty local hand-made sheep and goat cheeses, woolen hats, scarves and stockings, and an enormous variety of what we thought were well-made and pretty inexpensive finished leather goods—hats, purses, many coats, vests, all geared to cold winter weather-but check the labels, because we did note some purses labeled “Made in Italy.” We also saw quite a number of animal pelts (I don’t know how U.S. customs would react to a rolled up pelt, if you bought one, and wanted to take it home).

Worth a visit, as well, was the town center cemetery, where many the local notables were buried in unique, interesting, and quirky graves. Finally there was a local, mostly wood church, in a forested area just outside the town, whose hand carved exterior and especially it wooden interior, images and altar were quite interesting, unique, and well worth a visit. After touring several big cities, this area was a nice contrast.

well.....i finally stayed here and was impressed and also dissapointed......first.....theres a big hole in front of the hotel where a mini mall was supposed to go in but now abandoned....but i'm a trooper so i can get by that....the location is primo....right in the middle of krupowki.....charming enough outside appearance.....the next best thing is the restaurant...just like everyone else has mentioned.......great food, service and ambiance....as a rule i dont eat in hotel restaurants but i saw they had veal shank and i was like right there....and it was excellent..the house wines were excellent in fact the best i have ever ever experienced anywhere....and in the mountains of poland?...the bartender then made me a galliano/expresso drink that was out of this world....i had 2 in one day.....lol....the staff is extremely helpful....in fact the whole first floor of that hotel is excellent...5 stars....the restaurant, bar, common area and front desk.....its upstairs in the rooms thats a bit dated and not 5 star....and if i'm not mistaken the walls are a bit thin particularly in the bath room.......lastly.....excellent pool.....bring a bathing suit!

Room Tip: get a room with views of the mountains

Just had a great lunch in hotel restaurant. Traditional, rustical but elegant design, very polite staff and incredible food. Had tradittional duck with apple filled dumplings, something what you will keep dreaming about afterwards!

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2012

We have been coming to Zakopane since 2000 and have always promised ourselves we would stay at the Litwor when we could afford it. We stayed here in July, and although it is a lovely hotel, ideally situated, great staff and fantastic restaurant, we felt quite disappointed by the fact it was obviously not a 5 star if you compare it with hotels in Krakow or Warsaw. Little things like, no shaver point or mirror, no tissues, no facecloths, slippers or robes. We also found that a 2" foam mattress on top of a sprung divan base maybe OK for exhausted skiers, but not for our ageing bones! Also, we paid more for this hotel than any other 5 star we stayed at in Poland.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony, lovely to sit out and look at the mountains

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

I stayed in Zakopane for two nights, during my visit in Poland in June 2012. It is a city you have to visit because there are many things you can see and especially if you like mountains.
The hotel inside has an old-style setting. The rooms do look quite old and are not the best that I have seen, although that they are spacious. The staff is helpful and cooperative. The location of the hotel is great because you are in the city center, close to all the shops, restaurants and bars.
The breakfast in the hotel is more than complete, you can literally find anything you want. I dont know if this is really a 5-star hotel but it could definetaly be a 4-star hotel. The prices could be a bit lower because it was quite expensive, but you must count for that you are in the city center and everything is away within walking distance.
