“Good Location/Average Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2011

We stayed at the Poleski Hotel in August 2011. We arrived early but were told the room would not be available until 2.00pm so they let us store our cases in a locked room at reception. We had room 11 which to our disappointment had no view of the river so was a bit dreary. The two other couples we travelled with had rooms 4 & 6 which both had river views and were much brighter. Our room was basic but looked a bit tired. The carpet was covered in stains, the beds were ok but the bottom sheet resembled a tablecloth and barely covered the mattress. 2 bottles of water were supplied free of charge each day but the mini bar didn’t have much selection or stock.
Breakfast was ok but not kept stocked or hot. We had to wait more than half an hour for milk for tea and cereal one morning despite asking 3 times. There is a roof terrace which was lovely during our stay because the weather was very hot, but again not stocked so the bar staff had to go down 2 floors to get the drinks we ordered so the service was very slow.
Krakow is a fantastic city with lots of historical places to visit with the square at the hub which provides entertainment and markets during the day, so overall you don’t stay in your room for long periods of time so you have to decide whether to accept a lower class of hotel for better value or if quality is more important to you there are much nicer hotels than this one.

Positives: Good location, nice roof terrace,
Negatives: Badly lit, air conditioning inadequate, no room telephone, no English channel on the TV, unhelpful staff, some rooms need updating

The staff at the hotel were great and helpful. The breakfast that came with the stay was good as well. The view from the hotel is beautiful and it’s a good location. Even with all these positive, I would not recommend staying here. The rooms left a little to be desired. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and the sheets didn’t cover the mattresses. The air conditioning was not cool and the staff turned it off at night (there is apparently a key at the front desk that they have to use to either turn it on for use in all rooms or turn it off). You can’t control the individual room temperature.

Hotel was quiet, clean and tidy. Rooms were spacious with floor length windows to admire the lovely view of Wawel Castle. Staff were very courteous and professional. Dining room was smart, again with great views over the river to the Castle.

We were particularly impressed with the breakfasts which were a cut above the standard continental fare - selection of meats, cheeses, eggs, flaky croissants and wonderful pastries, scrambled eggs and sausages. All beautifully presented. As much coffee as you could drink, served to the table by the waitress which makes a real change from going back and forth to those infernal coffee machines! Lovely memories of having yet another coffee, and yet another pastry, looking out at the snow falling on the river and planning our day!

We went in December when it was -15 but the hotel was lovely and warm. There was quite a Christmassy atmosphere, with lighted decorations in the town and a Christmas market. Lots of places to have a mulled wine in the warm.

We did go to the Jewish Quarter but it wasn't as atmospheric as we thought it would be. Mind you, we very well could've missed out the important bits as we didn't have a map at that point! If you have a personal interest in this then I suggest a bit of planning and map-reading!

Couldn't fault the hotel, couldn't fault the location and Krakow itself was lovely! Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a room without a tree in front of the win

Great hotel, approx 15mins walk from the Square. Arrived approx 11.00am, checked in and given key to great room if a little basic, but very clean, over looking Castle (room 17). You have to ask for a hairdryer but that not a big deal.
Breakfast usual selection of cold meats, breads, sausages and scrambled eggs. Didn’t eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on that.

I would stop at this hotel again, staff very friendly

Got this hotel as part of package with flights out of belfast -- very cheap for 4 nights just before Easter -- excellent location 15mins nice relaxed walk to town square beautiful view across river of Castle.

Rooms basic but clean - well serviced everyday
Breakfast very basic diluted juice, warm frankfurt sausages or luke warm scambled eggs, selection of some breads + "veg" peppers etc cereal+ limited cheese's
We had dinner in hotel resturant 1 night and it was excellent and not to expensive and has a beautilful view of castle

I can recommend the Auschwitz tour and we also did the Jewish tour but unfortunatley Schindler's factory was not open --due to open in june2010.

The castle was a good day out aswell + there is a Dragon's Lair unfortunenatley it wasn't open either we missed the opening by 1 day

If you are looking for shopping or somewhere to go on a rainy day there is a very good large shopping mall near town square good selection of shops -- some designer shops but quite expensive

We loved Krakow and would go back to this hotel purely for beautiful location on riverbank however if you can get it even cheaper by not including breakfast it would be extremely good value + its not too far to walk + eat out for breakfast

I was very impressed with this hotel, spotlessly clean, great service and food to die for. Make sure you get a room with a river view because the view is stunning. It’s a ten to fifteen minute walk to any of the three main areas of the city and the staff all speak English and are very helpful.
The only faults where very very minor ones like no plug in the sink, no lock on the toilet door and for some reason no bin in the room but there was one in the toilet. On the first night we did have to complain about the noise coming from a group of drunks on a bench by the riverside under our window but they where moved on by the police within minuets of us complaining to the reception.
I hate to point out these faults because this hotel is one of the best we have ever stayed in and for the location the price was unbelievably cheap so we would highly recommend The Poleski to anyone.
