“Good hotel, good location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

Just returned from a 4 night stay at the Grodek. Whilst up a not so impressive street the hotel itself is very good indeed and in a very quiet location but within very easy reach of the main square. Our room was of a good size, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good continental but could get freshly cooked omelette/scrambled egg. Staff all very polite, friendly and helpful. We booked our trips through the hotel and although perhaps slightly more expensive we were picked up and dropped back off at the hotel and did not have to go in search of a meeting point. I would without doubt recommend this hotel.

We loved the four days spent in Krakow and particularly the Grodek Hotel. The staff could not have been more helpful and the hotel is very central. Don't miss the salt mine. We hired a taxi and the day spent was reasonable, no cheap, and our driver most accommodating - even waited nearly an hour at no additional charge while we bought train tickets to Prague. Going back to the Grodek after long days sightseeing was always a treat.

It is hard to convey the perfect location of this hotel - just minutes from the hustle and bustle of the main square yet perfect peace once through its door. Equipped and decorated to a very high standard, it is a little gem. There was even a 13 amp socket in the bathroom. Delightfully helpful staff everywhere and as everyone says - a breakfast which would easily last you through the day. Slightly disappointed with the bed, which in the suite was very low, and if one person moved both did and for our friends in a superior room, who had particularly small twin beds which housekeeping flatly refused to be pushed together! They separated them each morning for the three nights we were there. That apart I repeat - a gem of a place.

The Grodek is a lovely hotel in a superb city center location. The main square is only 2 minutes away. The staff are all very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are lovely and the bed is the best one I have ever slept in,home or away. I would strongly recommend this hotel its five star and affordable luxury.

Room Tip: rooms 101 + 103 are on the first floor and are very quiet and not overlooked with a acceptable view...

We found the Hotel Grodek to be a very beautiful, charming, quiet hotel within easy walking distance of everything including the train station. The breakfast and service were outstanding. While the quality of everything in our room was superb, we did find the mattress too soft for us. Otherwise, everything was great.

Room Tip: For some reason, I couldn't change the rating on the pool and fitness center. I don't even...

The location of this hotel can't be faulted. It is tucked up a very quiet little street yet only a few minutes walk to the main square. It was very easy to find from the main railway station and only a 15 minute stroll. I would recommend walking through the planty which is the park area encircling the old town.

The staff were very friendly, efficient and informative.

We stayed in a standard room which some have described as compact. We found it be be very comfortable and roomy enough. In addition to a comfortable double bed there was a desk with a mini bar and two chairs. Other facilities included a safe, robes and slippers. Both the room and hotel in general were very clean.

The breakfast itself and the breakfast room were quite delightful. There was the usual fare of cold meats, cheeses, cereals, yoghurt, fruit and pastries but in addition they would cook fresh egg dishes to order. There were also some more unusual but delicious options such as greek salad and caprese salad.

The library bar in the hotel is an absolute delight and although bar staff finish at 11.30ish, the night receptionist will serve drinks after that time.

We caught the train from the airport to Krakow and this was cheap and easy. There is a free shuttle bus that runs from the airport to the railway station but we walked and it only took about 5 minutes. Tickets can be bought at machines in the airport or from staff on the train. It's 12 zloty for a single or 20 zloty for a return.

We pre-booked 2 trips with Krakow Shuttle.com and found them to be very efficient and friendly. The Auschwitz-Birkenau is a must and the tour guide we had with the above company was very informative and the delivery of such harrowing information was pitched perfectly. The saltmine was also a very enjoyable experience.

Krakow itself is a beautiful city although we did not expect temparatures in the low 30Cs. It is a compact city and we easily walked from the old town where the hotel is based to Wawel Castle and the Jewish quarter. Prices are very reasonable, even around the main square although slighty cheaper in the side streets. If you like jazz i would recommend the Harris jazz bar on the main square. We found everyone we spoke to in bars, shops and restauranrs to be very friendly.

Room Tip: Due to the quiet location of the hotel all rooms should be peaceful, none of them overlook a road.

We went on our first visit to Krakow with another couple and had a wonderful time , in no small part to this great hotel. The trip started perfectly when we arrived to find Tomas from KRAKOW AIRPORT EXPRESS waiting to take us in comfort to the airport. The 79 zloty or 19 euros was well worth it especially for 4 people. Staff at the hotel where welcoming and very helpful letting us into the rooms early so we could make the most of our visit.

Bathrobes and slippers were provided which was a nice touch and the beds were very comfortable.

One room had almost private access to the small roof terrace. Perfect for a pre-dinner drink

Breakfast could not be faulted and included the option of a cooked to order choice. .

The front desk staff were very helpful , arranging visits and also arranging for us to keep one of the rooms until time for our return to the airport (again by the punctual Krakow Airport Express) at 7.30pm
As for Krakow itself, what a wonderful surprise! We had wall to wall sunshine and everyone was very friendly, . The visit to Auschwitz was very moving if draining. we also visited the salt mine ( not for the claustrophobic) NB do these on separate days unless you are a masochist , you can still get the discount for booking both.

I am sure we will return as we have not tried all the different types of pierogi yet

Room Tip: Room 310 is very large and has the rooftop terrace outside the door.
