“Ideal location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2012

Recently back from a 4-day trip to this wonderful city. This hotel is excellent for a city visit - close to the historic centre yet located in a quiet cul-de-sac, a 5-minute walk away from the noise and bustle. Staff excellent, efficient and unobtrusive. If you want over-attentive gushing waiters etc. then go to the Med or North Africa, not Poland. This is a small hotel, and very luxuriously appointed, and rooms have been recently refurbished. Spotlessly clean. Comfy beds. Good shower, and posh toiletries. Bathrobes and slippers, and all you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Free internet. Small restaurant - we had breakfast there but didn't eat there in the evenings as there was so much choice in the city, and I suspect it would have been very quiet. Breakfasts were very good and attention of the staff, as stated, was perfect. The bar in the basement is really the only other public room in the hotel - cosy. The hotel is across the road from the tram stop, so access to all the city is a breeze. The city itself is a worthwhile trip - beautiful and historic buildings and plenty of greenery for walks around the old centre. The castle is worth a visit. The churches are astonishing if you're into churches. As a Catholic living in a secular country it's an eye-opener to see priests and nuns walking around the streets, and lots of young people attending church. Hundreds of bars and restaurants. The best eatery we found was Aperitif - two minutes from the hotel. The food and drink in Krakow is cheap - 3 courses and a bottle of wine for two persons under £50 in most places. Very acceptable pint of Polish beer is under £2, wine is dearer. Essential trips are to Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Wieliczka salt mine. We pre-booked on the net with escape2poland - they also organised the airport runs - excellent and prompt service in air-conditioned mini-buses. The Auschwitz trip is one of those experiences everyone should have, but you would never want to do it again. Salt mine is terrific and not to be missed. We would visit this city again, and stay at the Grodek, even though it's a bit pricey.

This is a very handsome building in a wonderful location, central yet quiet. The staff are welcoming, friendly and efficient. The room was smaller than I imagined and I had difficulties connecting to the internet, as the wifi signal was not good enough. Just a few little things that made me feel it wasn't good value for money, or not quite reaching the 4 star level I would expect.

I had a pleasant meal in the restaurant, and found the waiter particularly friendly.

Hotel Grodek is ideally placed inside the Planty (former walls of the city) and an easy 5 minute stroll to the main square. Taxi rank & tram stops are nearby.
Although it is close to the hub of tourist activity, the hotel is located in a cul de sac (no passing traffic) and we always found it to be quiet & peaceful.
We thought this was an excellent hotel, well maintained with fine decor.
The rooms were good sized and very clean.
Mini-bar & tea/coffee making facilities were provided.
Breakfasts were very good. Staff were unobtrusive, but polite, friendly, and efficient.
The hotel also arranged airport transfers via a reliable, smooth, & friendly taxi service.
We enjoyed our stay, it was good value, and we would definitely recommend it to you.

We have just arrived back from a fantastic break in the Grodek. The hotel is in the most perfect location, right on the doorstep of everything the old town has to offer without ANY noise. The hotel was full at least one of the nights we stayed there yet we hardly heard a sound from other guests or outside the hotel during our 4 day stay. We saw lots of the hotels I had seen on here and noting their busy locations was glad I booked the Grodek, it could not have been in a better location.
The staff are very pleasant and happy to help with anything you ask. They found us a UK plug adaptor as we forgot to pack ours. They had organised airport transfers and these went very smoothly too.
My only criticism is that the staff are almost shy. They don't tell you what the hotel has to offer and there was no information in the room, so I am sure we missed out on stuff!
The breakfast was a plentiful supply of continental fayre, fruit and cereals and a choice of breads. There was also bacon and 'hot dog' sausages which I didn't try and you could ask for eggs cooked any way you liked (tho again you had to psychically know this!). They supplied latte type coffees and were happy to keep bringing you as many as you liked. We certainly never had any issues with 'disappearing staff' like others have said, there was always someone on hand and they were all very polite and efficient.
The room was lovely, very clean, bright and the perfect temperature. I was a bit nervous as my husband hates warm hotel rooms, but he was delighted and commented on how comfortable it was. There was loads of hot water and water pressure was excellent. The beds were soft but gave neither of us problems and we both have back problems. I slept like a baby!
We never used the bar, tho we had intended. One night we went to use it when we got back at midnight and it was closed but the receptionist offered to serve us, but I refused as I felt my husband had no need of more vodka LOL, it was a gorgeous room and perfect for a cozy drink. We did check it out but sadly didn't actually manage the drink.
I have to say that if there had been better information in the hotel I would have given it a perfect score. So please Grodek, tell us when breakfast is and where and have a bedroom information pack for your guests.

Very nice property with good rooms and nice baths. My bed was a little soft, but all else about the room was great. The basement restaurant serves good food and has a nice breakfast buffet. The library-like bar is a good place to have a drink after a day of sightseeing.
The location is perfect: on the city wall, not more than 200 meters from the market square.

We stayed for three nights, and chose the hotel because of the location. We were not disappointed, as it is just around the corner from the main square but still on a quiet street, so you are just next to the hustle and bustle without actually being disturbed by it. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and helped us with a bunch of questions regarding trains and busses etc. The hotel itself was spotless, the room and the lobby and the breakfast room, all very nice and clean! Our room was a bit on the small side but it was in no way uncomfortable and still had space for everything. I would highly recommend it, for its cleanliness, its friendly staff, resonable price and great location.

Room Tip: Even though we prob got the smallest type of room as we paid a very reasonable price we were still v...
