“Stay near the Jewish Quarter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel is in a great spot, not too noisy (well we didn't hear much!) and within easy walking (flat) reach of the main spots in Krakow. we booked everything individually on line and saved about £100 each overall, the bargain were the private taxi transfers form the airport at less than £20 return! The room we had was quite large for 2 singles and everything was clean although the pillows were awful! The breakfasts were ok for a B & B nothing special, but there are only so many different things you can have hot or cold.
There are plenty of places to eat and bars big and small in the same street and within less than 5 minutes walk. the main square of Krakow is about 10 minutes slow easy walk away.
we only stayed for three nights and I would definitely go back to the hotel - especially as they said I would have a deal as I had stayed once!
Best tea and cake was at the Israeli kosher tea house just past the hotel next to the library.

Room Tip: top floor - away from the street

I spent there 2 nights in October being on a business trip, the facilities were clean, very basic however with some nice touches like complementary water replenished every day, free toiletries, bathrobe and breakfast buffet, room safe and speedy working WIFI. The breakfast menu was average, no thrills but plenty of food for price of £25 for bed and breakfast though :) The only drawbacks are: the location of the safe in the room - you have to literally go your knees to be able to use it and the single glazed windows- lot of noise coming from the street in the evening.

I've been to this hotel as part of a group.
The breakfest ia fine. The rooms are big and comfertable.
You only get 1 key to the room, for the 2nd you will need to sing some paper
No safe and no refrigarator.
The bed is a bid small. No welcom set.

We used the Hotel Astoria as a base for our visits to Auschwitz/Birkenau, and the Schindler museum. We were a party of nine students with visual impairment and six staff. The hotel could not have been more helpful. We had a corridor all to ourselves, which meant that with the minimum of disruption to other guests we could organises ourselves and come and go as we pleased.
The hotel is well located in the Jewish Quarter on a very interesting street with some lovely independent shops and restaurants close by. It isn't really walking distance from the railway station, and it's about a 20 minute walk up to the main town square in the old town.
The rooms were great - nice and big, with good bathrooms (one of the showers had to be fixed while we were there). The wifi was excellent. Beds were comfortable. The street was quite noisy at night, especially on the Friday.
The staff on the reception and in the dining room looked after us really well. The breakfast was really good, tasty, varied and substantial. We ate evening meals in the hotel as well, and although we did not have any choice, the meals went down pretty well with everyone.
I'd definitely come and stay here again when travelling with my husband, and I'd also recommend the hotel Astoria to other school parties.

Room Tip: The street was quite noisy on the Friday night, but people in the rooms at the back also said they h...

Having been to Krakow about 10 years ago and stayed near the main square I thought that this time I would like to stay in a different location and chose Hotel Astoria as it was in the Jewish quarter of the city. When the taxi took us to the hotel and I saw all the shabby buildings on the street I wondered what I had let myself in for. I need not have had any qualms, the hotel was clean, the rooms were spacious, tea and coffee making facilities were in the room, bottled water was left in the room and replenished when used as were shampoo and shower gel, the staff were very friendly and although a continental breakfast was provided there was scrambled egg, sausage, yoghurt and fruit. The beds were very comfortable and the room was cleaned daily. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would certainly recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting krakow.

Room Tip: We stayed on the third floor in a standard room and had no problems at all

I chose this hotel as part of the package with Escape2 Poland. It was rated 3 star. When we were dropped off by our excellent limo service I was a little disappointed. It is not an impressive facade. It is a basic hotel, no frills BUT, the staff are wonderful, it it very, very clean, the room was large and the shower powerful. Breakfast was varied, continental with a small selection of hot food and plentiful. The coffee was very good and it opens at 0700 which was perfect to enjoy before our pickup for our tours. The main attraction of the hotel is the position in the Kamariniz, or Jewish Quarter of Kraków. It is a very historic area, great strolls along the river and around the historic sites. The fantastic restaurants and side pavement cafes are with in a few hundred meters. If you want luxury this is not for you. If you want convenience and cleanliness this is perfect.

Pulling up to this hotel in the taxi we were slightly concerned on what we had let ourselves in for. The hotel looked slightly rough around the edges, however looks can be very deceiving.

Speaking very good English the guy on reception checked us all in early, gave us maps, showed us where the local nightlife was, gave us all the information and tickets for our pre-booked trips and couldn't do enough for us. I do prewarn you all though, that there is a local city tax you have to pay at the hotel (as with any Hotel in Krakow) of around 1.6 PLN which is about 20 pence a night.

Entering our room we strangely had four single beds in our room. We were traveling as a group of four but the other two had seperate rooms so it was odd but of no issue. The rooms themselves are quite modern with everything you would expect in a standard hotel room. Tea and coffee making facilities, two wardrobes, fridge, TV, safe (free), desk, nice big window and stocked bathroom with shower gels etc...

In regards to the TV you can plug your media player into it with the right wires and watch movies through it, which you will probably want to do so if you are planning to spend any time in your room as the only channels in English is China news and a Polish channel that shows English speaking films but talks over them in Polish.

Rooms are cleaned, towels are changed, toilet roll and shower gels changed daily much to my shock when I opened the door in just my boxers to the maid on the Saturday when I was a bit worse for wear.

Breakfast was very nice. A nice selection of cold meats, bread rolls (enabled us to make sandwiches for later in the day), toast, cereals, sausage, egg, yogurts, fruit, croissants and tea and coffee available from 7am until 10:30am.

The location of the hotel couldn't be better. Located in the Jewish quarter it was a thirty second walk to the nearest bar and a two minute walk to the nearest nightclub come restaurant called Nova, which I really recommend for its food and service, a 15/20 minute walk from the 10-acre Main Market Square which is full of bars and restaurants, 20 minute minibus trip to the Salt Mines and an hour trip to Auschwitz.

Positives:
* 20 Minutes drive away from Krakow airport.
* Free Breakfast
* Very quiet at night
* Rooms cleaned daily
* English speaking staff
* Free WIFI
* Non smoking hotel
* Free bottled water daily
* Free room safe
* Tea and coffee making facilities in the room
* 24 hour manned reception desk
* Good security

Negatives:
* Lack of parking
* Views not spectacular
* Lack of English speaking TV channels (BBC World Service would be appreciated)
* Suspicious looking stain on carpet of room that had been hidden by rug

Room Tip: Rooms towards the East of the Hotel have slightly better views.
