“great little hotel”

Hotel Senacki

Just returned from 3 nights at the Hotel Senaki. We paid the extra for one of the luxury rooms and got Room 101 on the first floor which was excellent. Hallway with fridge, sitting room with TV, bedroom with TV and huge bathroom. A minature Versaille Palace. Lovely balcony overlooking the street. We were not bothered by any noise as the street comes off the pedestrianised square - there were a few cars and taxis going past but nothing too bad and we slept well every night. Hotel was spotlessly clean. The room was had a good central heating system and there was an air con. unit for the summer. Breakfast was good - quite a reasonable selection. They do hot food and there is a sign on the wall saying you can have a variety of eggs, ham etc... but they don't offer it to you and you have to ask but it is well cooked when you get it. Reception staff speak reasonable English and were very polite. Excellent location between the main Square and the castle and everything within walking distance. If we went back to Krakow we would definately stay there again.
Pretty place - not a lot to see for more than a day or so. Everything within walking distance once you have your bearings. We went on the hop on/off tour bus which is a bit of a waste of money as it can only go around the "ring road" - not the nicest of views!. It would be better to get a tour on one of the little electric carts that tour around the town and because of their size can have access to all the little back streets. Nice shops and loads of restaurants and bars - they tend to eat early and we found by 7.00 it was difficult to get a table so if you see somewhere you fancy during the day book a table for that evening! Definately try E. Wedels cafe in the square if you like chocolate - their hot chocolate drink was just that - hot melted chocolate - delicious.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at the Senacki. The hotel is 5 minutes from Wawel Castle and about 5 from the Rynek Glowny main market square. The location was perfect. The hotel is very nice inside, the room we had (103) was spacious with a great view of the church of St Peter and St Paul. The receptionist that checked us in and out wasn't too nice and there was a slight mix up on check out. I had been quoted the price of our stay in euros by the site that i booked with, i also emailed the hotel directly to check that this was correct and they confirmed it was, but when i went to pay for the hotel with euros that i thought they wanted, they would not take them, so dont take euros. Breakfast was ok, the usual bread cheese eggs and ham. Was served in the cellar bar on one morning which is very nice. Would recommend the restaurant Miod Malina which is just across the road from the hotel, nice atmosphere and good food at decent prices. Was very busy when we were in there though, they were having to turn a lot of people away so would advise you book the day before maybe. Christmas markets are small but lovely. We also visited Wieliczka Salt mines which were amazing, would definatley recommend this, but only if you dont mind 832 steps down and are not claustrophobic! We went to Auschwitz on a tour and would advise you do this on your own if you want to go there as the tour guide whisks you round very quickly without giving you time to take it all in. Overall we loved Krakow and thought it was a good choice of hotel.

“Really enjoyed the Senacki”

Hotel Senacki

Dec 14, 2007

There are two great things about the Senacki; first, its location, and second the standard to which it has been renovated.

The location is mid-way down Grodzka Street, which puts it a brisk 5 min walk from the main Market Square (Rynek Glowny) uptown, and closer to the Wawel complex downtown. Across the street is the ornate frontage of the St Peter and Paul Church, and all around are shops and restaurants. I honestly don't think you could pick a better location. But it didn't seem noisy for that. Though admittedly my room was on the top (4th) floor and maybe it's livelier at night in the summer.

The hotel itself is smart without being pretentious. I think I saw it styled as a "boutique" hotel somewhere, which suggested it might be a bit posey and over-stated. But it isn't. It's in an older building which has been sensitively renovated and is stylish but not lavish. You won't find the super-rich there, and likewise I should think you're unlikely to come across too many stag parties (although there is a quite popular bar downstairs).

The room I stayed in (401) was great if you like peace and quiet. It's a slightly unusual shape, probably because it's an attic room (so the windows are low down plus skylights). The colours are subtle, the furniture good quality, there is good heating, a TV and a minibar.

The hotel's restaurant is open for breakfast 7am-10am, and then serves meals, snacks and drinks pretty much throughout the day. I ate their once, and the food was good and not over-priced (for Krakow). They also do room service.

The staff were polite and fairly friendly (which is an endorsement in Poland, where customer service is improving rapidly but can still lag behind other places). The room was cleaned daily and promptly, and the receptionists were helpful.

Niggles? Well there has to be one or two in any review.
- in the room, there was no bath (only a shower) - I think rooms either get one or the other.
- there is only air-conditioning in 11 of the 20 rooms as well.
- the lift doesn't go to the 4th floor, which might be an issue if you are less able (or have really heavy luggage).
- not unusually, there is no tea and coffee facilities (when will Eurpoean hotels finally work out how many brownie points they'd score with British tourists if they provided this?!).
- the breakfast selection is a bit limited (though you can order a cooked breakfast).

But these niggles are minor. The Senacki is a really nice hotel; a winner in its category as far as I was concerned. If I go back to Krakow, I'd certainly want to stay there again.

“Excellent location”

Hotel Senacki

Just back from a 4 night stay at the Senacki. Great location, right in the middle of the old town on the road between the main square and the castle. Bars and restaurants all around. Could hardly be better.

We had a 4th floor room at the back which was pleasantly quiet. The lift only goes as far as the third floor, so you have to walk up to the 4th floor.

The room had a large, well equipped bathroom, but we found the room on the small side. With different organisation, we thought the space could have been better utlilised. We would have appreciated better seating in the room - the room had two small and rather uncomfortable chairs only.

Disappointingly, the bar was closed for the duration of our stay. Plenty of bars nearby, but after a day tramping the streets we would have appreciated somewhere to sit and have a drink back at the hotel (there is no lounge). The room was the only option available. We found this aspect a bit of a negative.

We thought that breakfast was a bit 'hit and miss'. A reasonable buffet selection, but staff were slow to replenish items and the toaster mysteriously disappeared on our last morning. Cooked food was available ffrom a limited menu, but you had to find a staff member to take the order, which was not always easy.

Reception staff were very helpful and spoke good english.

Overall, this is decent enough, small hotel in an excellent location. We felt that it was reasonable value for money, as long as you don't set your expectatons too high.

“Fantastic location”

Hotel Senacki

Fantastic hotel in a great location. Our room was on the top floor at the back and was very clean, warm and had a massive bathroom. It looked like the room had been recently decorated. The lift only goes to the 3rd floor so rooms on the top floor (4th) are not suitable for those who don't want to walk up any stairs. Very good choice at breakfast.
