MKG Travel - on the KrakowShuttle.com website are excellent. They provided our airport transfers and we also booked the tour with them. We were picked up on time at our hotel and during the trip to Auschwitz we watched a film about the history. Our driver Peter was very good, explaining the time schedule for the the tours, breaks etc. Our guide on the tour of both Auschwitz and Birkenau was Alicia and we felt she did a terrific job - a soflty spoken woman with tremendous knowledge, a quiet reverence and a willingness to answer questions and all done at a very good pace - it didn't feel at all rushed. After the Birkenau tour we boarded the bus and we all agreed that nothing can prepare you for what you witness. Not everyone was going onto the Salt Mine but those who were, like us, were provided with lunch - a cheese salad roll plus a substantial tub of chicken and pasta with salad and a choccie biscuit. We changed transport further on and our new driver took us to the Salt Mine, bought our tickets, and informed us when our tour below would take place and when he would return. Enough time for a coffee etc. The Salt Mine was amazing and again our tour guide, Agnes, was extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and she took us through the labyrinth of tunnels and chambers, giving us time for photo opportunities and answering any questions. Please be aware that there are many steps to go down in the Salt Mine so it might not be for everyone. I thought I might feel claustrophobic but it was fine. We got parted from the rest of the company at the end of the tour so when we eventually got back to the starting point at the Salt Mine it was closed with no sign of the bus but after a quick phone call from my husband the bus arrived. The driver had gone looking for us as the lift we took back up brought us up in the town which was a good walk from our starting point. It was a long day - 10 hours and we reckon we must have walked about 10 miles - but definitely a must and we're so glad we did it. We highly recommend the company.
