Just returned from a visit to Krakow to retrieve daughter who was studying there. I was a bit surprised how hard it was to find a room at the Sheraton or several other hotels until I realized the soccer teams were staying there that week. I called the Platinum concierge line and they booked me a room using award points for the Club Level.
When I arrived, I was told I had been upgraded to a "Studio," although that room type is not described anywhere on the hotel website. I asked about a suite and was told no junior suites were available. We kept talking, and then I was told I could pay an extra 1600pln (over $500 a night) for a suite. After much back and forth, they finally agreed they had a suite and I could have it since I had paid 8500 points a night instead of the standard 7000 points a night because of the special events.
The room was actually very nice- two win beds, a couch and desk area, plenty of storage. I was happy to find a safe in the room to leave my computer when I went out. The bathroom had a combination tub/shower that was clean and looked like a nice soaking tub.
The Club Lounge was usually pretty empty, but provided a nice respite. During the day they offered a variety of small snacks, and sodas, water, beer and wine. For breakfast they offered cereal, pastries and yogurt. The coffee/espresso machine functioned all day. In the evening they put out a few appetizers including a nice variety of bruschetta.
If you do not have status or a Club Room, the internet access is relatively expensive at 59pln for 24 hours. The speed was ok, not great, but it worked. There is free wifi in the lobby and lounge, and there are computers and printers in both places, as well.
We did not try the restaurant given all the great dining choices all around nearby, but the prices in the hotel restaurant were much higher than the local restaurants and bars nearby. For example, a glass of wine might be 20pln at the hotel, versus 8-10pln nearby. The prices were not high by hotel standards, just compared to the good local stuff right down the street.
The location is great- right on the river by Wawal Castle, so an easy walk to everything. Many tours will pick you up at the hotel if you want some guided help. Getting to the hotel was easy- a cab at the airport offered to take me in for 19pln a person, the same price as the train. Getting back to the airport, most cabs seemed to want in the 75pln range, but we opted for a hotel car service (in a nice black mercedes) for 80pln charged to the room.
The service was great all around, you just have to know to ask for things, like the upgrade. That seemed to be the case in general in Krakow. Overall, a very nice hotel- clean, convenient and centrally located. I would go there again.
