“Best Restaurant In Krakow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2013

This was a restaurant where you could go and relax, take your time, have excellent service and food that was second to no other in Krakow. I would give it a Five Star for quality, service & value.

“Bit dissapointing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

Looked great, peering throug the windows. Having gone in to be seated and on close inspection it was a little bit dissapointing. Service was poor in that we had to wait ages before anybody approached us for our order. No one asked if we wanted any drinks, I had to approach staff to say can we have a wine list. We ordered sparkling wine which took ages to arrive and we were given two diffrent champane flutes (little thing but annoying). For the class of the restaurant it was posing to be it was supprising to find that there were only tiny paper napkins set on the table as if it were a cheap diner. The food was good ish but the presentation was very mediocre. The supposed creamy mash potatoes was very lumpy and barely warm as opposed to the restaurant which was baking hot and uncomfortable.

“Kogel-Mogel Warsaw, Poland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

This restaurant was recommended by our Wielopole Hotel clerk as the best for pierogi and she was right. The pierogi dough was light and fluffy and the filling very good, not heavy at all. We each ordered an entree and the pierogi, half order was just right to share for two people - 8 each - so the entrée order would have been twice as much! Our entrées were delicious. A lot of game menu, which was true in both Poland and Lithuanian, and, of course, pork. All pierogi and potato pancakes are served with sour cream (never enough for us, but a reasonable amount, nevertheless.) We were given, gratis, a pate appetizer with a chutney type of side.

The name Kogel-Mogel is a dessert, which, before independence when not many things, especially sweets were scarce, was made by whipping sugar and eggs into a cohesive foam, poured into individual serving dishes - like the Italian Zabaglione.

The service was fine. We found that restaurant service in Poland and Lithuania is not rushed. We delighted in ordering our wine and relaxing while awaiting the delivery of the food. We almost always had a soup or an appetizer and ate slowly between courses. You should always indicate when you are done, i.e., that you would like the check - don't expect it to bring it automatically after the last dish has been cleared from the table.

We typically tipped rounding up to 10% of the bill.

The conversion rate between Zloty and US dollar is greatly in our favor, so my rating of $$ is based on this fact.

“Kogel-Mogel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We ate at this restaurant 3 nights out of the 6 we stayed in Krakow. Once for my wife's birthday, then for our 40th wedding anniversary and then on our last night. Pauline who served us on all 3 occasions was excellent friendly, polite and had time to talk to us. She made our visits to the restaurant very enjoyable. The food is excellent good quality and reasonably priced. When we go back we will visit the restaurant again and will ask for Pauline to serve us. This is an excellent restaurant and very near to the main market square. We highly recommend this restaurant to anybody that visits Krakow.

“Nice atmosphere but be patient and expect no service.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

I actually choose the Kogel-Mogel restaurant between 5 different choices based on the reviews here on Tripadvisors. The general ratings are good, but I should definitely have paid more attention to the negative ones.

I booked the table 3 days in advance and the booking was confirmed and even re-confirmed the day before we went there. Despite of this, the Kogel-Mogel had forgotten our booking! The booking was in their book, but there was no table for us! They quickly made up a table in the enterence (is is kind of a gate), which was not perfect, but okayish.

Secondly, the waiter did not bring the winelist with the menu cards so we had to wait for about 30 minutes before being able to order our wine. It lasted one hour before the wine was served!

Thirdly, as we sat in the enterance, there was a heavy draft. We asked twice if they could please close the glass doors - as the restaurant was full, it wouldn't really be a problem for them. However, they were not able to decide on this, so we ended up closing the doors ourself.

After app. 1½ hours of waiting our starters were served. The food was ok but not worth waiting that long for.

We managed to get through the night, but unfortunately the negative reviews here on Tripadvisors were very spot on the night we visited the Kogel-Mogel.
- The service was terrible or non-existing
- the waiting-time was tremendously long.

On the positive side I should fairly mention, that the atmosphere is great - if you choose to go and you go at summertime, make sure to get a table in the atrium. The prices are very fair and the food decent.
