Our family spent three nights in two joined rooms. Hotel is well located, it takes 15 minutes to walk to the main square, 10 minutes to Wawel, and 20 minutes to Kazimierz, where all bars and restaurants are. Lobby is nice, parking is easily accessible, and reception staff was very polite. Our good impression was however spoiled by the state of the rooms. In the middle of the kids' room there was a large stain on the carpet (we chose not to think that somebody vomited there, but it was the first impression). In the other room previous guests must have had a dog, as there was a lot of dog hair in couple of spots. The dog hair was cleaned after two days (just like nobody vacuumed the floor on the first day), the carpet stain was with us till the end...
Bathrooms were clean, thankfully. Now I regret that we did not report the state of the room, but we were tired after the journey on the first day, and on the next day we did not want to make a fuss with changing rooms.

Our rooms were facing the river and the street. The view was very nice, as the Wawel castle is beautiful. The downside was that we had to close the window when the trams started there schedule (5AM) -- the air condition was not working and ventilation was very poor.

We did not eat the breakfast, as it was 65 zloty per adult (kids eat free) -- there are many bars on the way to the main square that you can have a filling breakfast for 12-15 zloty per person.

The hotel has a pool and a fitness facility, both of which are very nice. Our children splashed in the pool for over an hour each day, which was perfect, as they went to sleep easily afterwards :)

So I have a mixed feelings about this hotel. I assume that we might have been unlucky with the state of the room, as apart from that everything was recommendable.

We stayed here for four nights in April 2013. Reasonable price (b & b) but had to pay all upfront when booking some months prior. Took the train from Balice - easy to get lost in the station - and taxi on to hotel. Early check in so had to wait for preferred room. But staff were more than helpful and courteous, especially Maria. Room was a hotel room - bit bland, white walls and view was not great. But was quiet and bed was extremely comfortable with bed settee if needed. Tea/coffee bits provided but issue 1 - what 4* hotel leaves guests one paper cup each and they cannot be reused. You drink your one cup and that is it. You do not get any uht milk unless you speak to the cleaner. Anyway, this really annoyed my other half. The breakfast scores really well and I would challenge anyone to find fault - you will find enough of something that you like. Issue 2 - it gets hectic around 8.30am and no-one could be seen to manage the place, plenty of staff but no-one in charge. Means you can be left standing with food but no table. Also, do not ask the tall thin girl for teabags - if they are not there, they are not there, so that is that! The bar is fine with big screen TVs and prices are reasonable. The bar staff, especially the tall slightly (?) older guy is really nice. The hotel does have a spa, sauna and pool. Issue 3 - the pool is fine but nervy if you are not a confident swimmer as it dips down sharply after a few steps. I am near 6ft and it was still well over my head halfway along. Used it once but did not go back in. Would be very wary with kids. Overall, good quality hotel with great staff and represented good value. I would go back and that is the big test!

Room Tip: Ask for a high room at front - they overlook the river and castle.

We stayed here for 4 nights for our wedding anniversary, it is a clean hotel, we stayed on the 4th floor, no view standard room, very quiet as there is carpet on the hallways so noise from rolling suitcases. the breakfast is hot/cold buffet from bacon, mushrooms, German sausages , porridge, cold meats , cheese and a good selection of breads . tea and coffee.
15 minute walk into the town square or the tram outside to take your near. the bus 292 takes you/from the airport for 8 zloty's each way for 2. you leave at the stadium, cross the road and have around a 5 minute walk to the hotel cut through the housing walkway. there is a good shop at the side of the hotel called Rossmans for all your cosmetic needs.
the swimming pool and whirlpool bath were great, we had the pool to ourselves in the morning.
they also supply towels in the changing room. The attendant will switch on the power back massagers in the pool if you require them.
the rooms are cleaned every day, and towels changed as often as you require by dropping them in the bath.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Stayed here in late April 2013 for a long weekend.

Location: Close to the city centre (15 minutes walk to the main square) and on a tram line that will take you very close to the centre too. Also on the banks of the Wisla.

Rooms: Reasonable size, everything you need. Nice and clean and airy and light, we were on the 4th floor with a view towards the Wawel Castle area. Fridge/mini bar, hair dryer etc. Noise levels were low, even with the trams outside.

Food: We only had B+B, but trust me, there was more than enough to have a four course breakfast, with fruit, cold meats, bread and jams and loads of sausages.

Bar: didn't use it I'm afraid, there were too many other places to get a drink in the city. We did, however have a beer across the road at Smil'v bar (a shack backing onto the river) where you can get sausages to cook yourself over a wood fire ... two beers and one sausage = £5.

Things to do: Only suggestions.

1) Go to the market square 'before the hour' (ie 12:59 / 13:59 etc) and here the bugler call from the tower of St Marys.
2) after midday, go to St Marys and see the alter ... it is unbelievable.
3) Go underground and see the 13th century remains under the square (they are much bigger than I'd expected)
4) walk along the banks of the Wisla towards the ghetto and see Oskar Schindler's factory. It's about an hour if you detour to the ghetto wall behind 62 Limanowskiego (which is quite surreal, being part of a childrens playground)
5) Salt Mines
6) Auschwitz ..

Overall: An excellent base for Krakow

On a trip in mid April 2013 we found the air conditioning in bedroom not working. As it was uncomfortably hot and difficult to sleep I complained to reception who informed me that the air conditioning was switched off in winter.

I will chose my hotel more carefully in future.

William

NovotelKrakowGM, General Manager at Novotel Krakow Centrum, responded to this review, April 22, 2013
Dear Guest,
First of all thank you for your time taken to comment your stay at Novotel Kraków Centrum.

At Novotel we strive to deliver the best service experience and I am most sorry that your stay was disturbed by uncomfortable room temperature.
I wish to explain that there is air conditioning system installed in the hotel and it is set to adjust the room temperature automatically. Additionally the system provides the possibility to choose the air blowing temperature in the room only in strictly specified range. If the outside temperature is low level, the system automatically switch off the possibility of cooling down and there is only fresh air blowing into the room. As the weather is changing very dynamically at the beginning of the spring (it is very cold during nights and very warm during days) respecting the air conditioning system procedures, we tailor more individually the temperature to the changing conditions and guest preferences.

Please accept my apologies we did not manage to meet your expectations this time and I still hope this problem will not impact your confidence in Novotel Krakow Centrum and want to assure you to be given the best service whenever you decide to stay with us again.

I visited this hotel for a single night, my decision mainly guided by being a platinum member of the Accor loyalty programme. I checked in late and the reception staff were polite and efficient. The lobby was clean and tidy, with a small shop, a couple of Internet terminals and a bar/restaurant area.

The rooms are consistently Novotel and there was nothing remarkable about them but they were clean and comfortable enough for a single night's stay. Internet access was complimentary and usually high speed but would occasionally cut off, which was a little annoying.

I ate in the restaurant and the food was fine, if a little bland. Annoyingly I was denied tap water even though there were jugs put out for a group booking. I didn't argue the point but thought that their insistence I purchase bottle, when others had jug, was very petty and left me feeling slightly disgruntled by the meal.

Checkout was efficient and after my stay I received an online survey which after completion resulted in a personal response from the hotel manger, which I thought was a nice touch.

I probably wouldn't stay here again as I would be keen to try other hotels in the area but I'd say it's an acceptable place to rest your head after a busy day.

Stayed December 2012, traveled solo
