My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Petrus 8/9 June and would rate it overall a reasonable experience. We had dismal weather the entire 2 days, so this maybe coloured our experience of the hotel, and Krakow in general. On the plus side, we received a warm welcome and the staff on the whole were very helpful. As the previous reviewer stated, the breakfast is good, and we found the restaurant food in the evening also good. The bathroom is indeed modern, very new, tiled, shower (no bath); however, there was no hairdryer nor (my personal bathroom test) tissues.
No way could our twin bedroom be described as great or large. There was no tea/coffee maker and the TV was high on the wall (always a give-away for a small room). In addition, the beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable. In fact, I hardly slept at all the first night and discovered in the morning that there were 3 consecutive wooden slats missing from under my mattress. Once this was brought to the attention of the hotel, however, it was seen to immediately. (Can't understand why they didn't already know as there were no broken pieces of wood under the bed which would seem to indicate someone had removed them!)
In addition, although located in a quiet, residential area (though there are a few barking dogs), the hotel is a good 25/30 minutes walk into the town centre. Your previous reviewer must have been wearing his/her 7-league boots if (s)he made it in 10 minutes! Even the hotel receptionist told us 25 minutes. It is an easy walk, however, and would have been very pleasant if the weather had been better.
Finally, we seemed to be the only independent guests at the hotel. The others belonged to a German coach tour group and we tended to get a little lost in the crowd. The hotel didn't seem to consider that we might also want feeding in the evening, but they did eventually find us a table and provide us with a meal, which was very good.
So, I would say, trying hard, but some way to go.
