We were a group of 8 friends spending a fantastic weekend in Krakow. I knew the Polski Bialym Orlem from previous stays. The hotel is very clean, has a very beautiful historic architecture and is very close to the train station (airport train, main line) and the main Krakow sights. As the hotel is right in the historic heart of Krakow parking is practically impossible, there are just two or three parking lots outside - so forget coming here with your car.
Breakfast buffet is excellent and the hotel staff are all extremely friendly.
The rooms are rather small (single and double) but very comfortable, especially the beds.
This time I had the bad luck to be in a room facing the street. The noise was unbearable. The night from Saturday to Sunday was a nightmare. I was woken up at 2AM by screaming and yelling drunks, a continous noise until 6:30 AM!!
By all means insist on a room facing the back yard. The view will not be spectacular but you will be able to sleept. My friends in the rooms facing the back couldn´t hear any noise.
The hotel management must do something about this noise problem, e.g. noise protection windows with air conditioning for the hot summer!
Very peculiar was the fact that the hotel bar closes at 10PM.
The bar is very cosy and looks out onto the illuminated old city wall - but 10PM sharp there will be no more drinks and at 10:15 PM everybody had to leave the bar.
In spite of all the negatives on the noise side (which I did not experience before on my previous stays as I had rooms to the back) I will certainly return. Of course insisting on a room to the back yard, otherwise I will look for another hotel.
