Owner description: Serving as a royal residence and the site where the country's rulers governed Poland for five centuries (1038-1596), this castle is a symbol of the independent Polish state and today contains a priceless collection of 16th-century Flemish tapestries, considered to be one of the largest in the world.

“beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

A very historic mix of buildings. Beautiful to walk in the grounds for free, only 15 minutes walk from the square. Stunning views of the river and city from here.

“Very Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

This was a great visit and free, it only costs you money if you want to go into the muesums within the walls. The cathedral is worth a visit, it was stunning. The small bar served snacks and coffee and unlike the UK you did not feel like you had been mugged when you paid the bill....

“Book early”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2014

Gets busy and they restrict the number of visitors per day so you need to go early.
Very large and lots to see. Can be expensive if you see each attraction as they charge separately for different areas !

“Big and impressive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

This is a huge castle and chapels that dominates the Kracow skyline. It was the home for Poland's rulers for many years and offers great views over the city and back over the river Vistula. We were here when the fabulous Magnolia trees were in bloom. There were University field trips from Newcastle Uni back in the UK Polish kids on school trips and it just soaked up everyone. There was no sense of being rushed or "you must buy" If you're on a budget this is a freebie - if you can survive not paying for some of the inside stuff. It's like Warwick Castle but without an admission fee and with better views. Great view over the "Dragons lair" and you can see the dragon breathing fire. Recommend this unreservedly to anyone visiting Kracow a good place to go to get semi-oriented for the city.......

“Beautiful place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2014

My only complaint is that the staff was not very friendly. Oh well! Still worth the visit! However, if I had to pick between the two, I would go to the Warsaw Castle and just visit the grounds at Wawel. The Cathedral at Wawel is a must!
