Owner description: Serving as a royal residence and the site where the country's rulers governed Poland for five centuries (1038-1596), this castle is a symbol of the independent Polish state and today contains a priceless collection of 16th-century Flemish tapestries, considered to be one of the largest in the world.

“Real?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

A strange and somewhat disappointing place in a lot of ways. I would suspect that that this was a magnificent structure at one time in the past, and there are obvious efforts made to restore some semblance of what once was. There was also an impressive list of places that could be visited within it, each with a charge. It was difficult to work out what was real, restored, or replaced. Hard to take a castle structure in 20th century bricks as real. Great views from its position, as befits a castle site.

Very easy to get there from main square. Lots of lovely views over the river. Great relaxed atmosphere for a sunny afternoon stroll.

“Impressive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

Worth a day to see everything fully. There is so much to see it would be hard to do in just a morning or afternoon. The cost of entry is inexpensive compared to the same type of thing in other countries. We would go back,as we shaven't seen everything there is to see.

“Finding the magic wall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

The guards will tell you that it doesn't exist but it does. Look for the wall with all the smudges from hand prints near the Renoir exhibit hall in the Renaissance castle. They say it is like a shot of Red Bull. Well worth the climb up the hill.
