Caught up in the troubled history of Poland, The Jagiellion University is an absolute jewel. Home of Copernicus and site of his world changing discoveries. The extended tour takes you through rooms full of old masters, scientific instruments, maps, decorative arts, etc, etc. The collection maps the history of Poland's arts and sciences as well as it's connections to the courts of Europe. Many of the exhibits were taken during WWII and continue to be repatriated. As an example of the Polish contribution to the international world of arts and sciences there is an Oscar in the Jagiellion collection. This lifetime achievement award was presented by Jane Fonda in 2000 to the great Polish film director Andrej Wajda, who, in turn, donated the statuette to the permanent collection of the university. It's a must see.
