“Suprisingly impressive!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

I'd heard good things about this museum via guidebooks and other research, but I was really impressed to actually see it. There are a lot of very cool high-tech exhibits, with holograms and realistic presentations.

I was left wondering though... did people in the 14th century just go, eh I'm done with this sidewalk, I'm going to dump 30 feet of dirt on it and start over? And why so many people just drop their shoes and jewelry when they moved? Was there some sort of disaster in olden Krakow? I don't know. Some of this stuff wasn't explained but, still, the exhibition is great. The photos of the actual excavation are not to be missed.

“Fascinating excavations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2014

Entrance is at the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall). Below the market square is a whole myriad of space devoted to showcasing the history of Krakow's main square .This museum opened in 2010 after about 5 years of excavations. You can see the old streets and trades dating from 13th century. The exhibits are explained using touch screen technology in varied languages. Well worth a visit.

“Superb museum - don't miss”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

The only down side to this museum is the ticket purchasing. Be aware that you buy your tickets from the other side of the Cloth Hall from the entrance to the museum. After that though the whole experience underneath the market square is brilliant. Once you get used to the lay out and direction there are informative guides for you to read in a selection of languages. Don't miss the model of medieval Krakow underneath the market square fountain - from above you would not know it was there. For us the highlight came at the end when we looked at the pictures of the excavation and everything that had been done to create the museum. Reminiscent of Yorvik in York but better value and bigger. Don't miss the subtitled films telling Krakow's history and allow at least 2 hours
