“One of the best hostels that I have ever been”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

This is one of the best hostels that I have ever been. Staff is very polite and friendly. Hostel is centrally located in a great old and quiet building. In the hostel you can get information about everything you need in Krakow.

Room Tip: Ask the girls at the front desk where to eat and drink and what to see in the city. They know much m...

This place gets 6 stars. Location is great, right next to a rail line, a 24 hr grocery store, and an open air market right next door. The staff was all wonderful and very nice. The offered us breakfast when we arrived early. Offered dinner every night at no additional cost. And even have some sort of event every night and take you out to a few bars/ clubs. Spoke to the owner for a few minutes and was a great person and loved his business.

We stayed in a private room with 2 beds and private bath. Worth every penny!

This hostel definitely deserves its 5 star rating on this site. I'd never been to Krakow before, so I wasn't sure where would be good to stay. We chose Mosquito based on the fantastic reviews and the contemporary look. As we were travelling as a couple, we wanted somewhere that was nicely busy without being full of stag and hen parties, but also not so quiet we were scared to talk or come in late!

Well, what can I possibly say about this hostel that's bad? Unfortunately there was a shop fit going on downstairs, which woke us up early on two of our days. This was just unfortunate for us, as our room was directly above it, and I can't blame the hostel in any way for this. That's the only reason I'm giving the sleep quality 4/5, as the beds and rooms were very comfy and we weren't disturbed by any other noise. That's actually the only thing that was bad, and it was something that was a minor inconvenience and not the hostel's fault anyway!

So, on to the good things! The location is fantastic, as it's a short walk from the station and about a 5 minute walk from the Old Town, which was brilliant for getting to the centre quickly and for getting back at night. Another good thing is that there's a 24-hour mini market directly opposite the hostel. We used it mainly to buy drinks and snacks but for any travellers planning to cook, this was a great place to get ingredients. The breakfast was what I'd expect at a hostel but definitely a good standard, especially considering it was complimentary. We booked a double room with a private bathroom and although it was about £40 a night for both of us, it was a really nice, clean room with a clean bathroom to boot. Although it was nice having a private bathroom, the communal toilet and shower areas were just as clean, so we wouldn't have minded using these either. The communal seating areas were also nice - the one in the kitchen area was through a glass door so although you could see in, it made it a bit more private. We had great fun playing board games in there one night after we'd been out!! This is also where the kitchen is, as well as a computer with internet access (though the free wifi is excellent if you have your own device). In the other communal sitting area there were books and also travel books and guides, which I thought was a nice idea. (I borrowed a book from there to read but ended up returning it unread, as I didn't have time to read it due to how much I wanted to explore this amazing city!)

I found the staff to be extremely helpful and friendly, and there was always someone on hand to help. As soon as we arrived we were shown to our rooms and then given lots of useful tips from the girl at reception about the best attractions, bars, cafes, restaurants and other points of interest, as well as detailed information about the trips on offer. Although we made our own plans, the hostel staff run a pub crawl every night and have various themed evenings (you can find out which on their website) free of charge!

Looking through all of the other reviews has made me miss Krakow and this hostel, so my boyfriend and I have decided to go sometime later in the year, and we'll certainly be returning to Mosquito Hostel. Highly recommended!

I have arrived back home in Northern Ireland and am so sad that I am not still at the Mosquito. The hostel is the best place I have ever stayed in. It is very clean with excellent facilities and is located in a good spot. They provide free breakfast (all you can eat, fresh and better than you would get in the cafes) and dinner (again, really nice food). In the evening the hostel provide entertainment including free vodka shots, sangria wine and shisha. Every night the staff take you on pub crawls and to clubs for free. The staff hang out with you and ensure everyone is happy. If you want to go on trips, the staff will help you book and get the tour guides to collect you from the hostel.

It isn't a party hostel though they tolerate partying. The staff are what make this place so special, they are really friendly and helpful. I have stayed in another popular and highly rated hostel in Krakow but nothing comes close to this place.

I will probably visit Krakow again soonish and will stay here. In the words of a certain famous Austrian steroid abuser, "I'll be back."

Thanks for everything, Irwin.

My friends and I were travelling around Europe and this hostel was not only the cheapest one we stayed in, but also the best by far! The atmosphere of the place was really relaxed and fun and the themed evenings such as sangria and burritos was brilliant for meeting the others in the hostel and I couldn't believe that breakfast and dinner were both included in the already very reasonable price!

The hostel pub crawl takes place every night and was a great way to get to know the people in the hostel and is also great if you don't know the good places to go out in Krakow. It starts with drinking games in the hostel and then everyone goes out together. Brilliant fun!

The kitchen facilities are brilliant for those who wish to cook for themselves, especially if you are staying for a longer period of time.

Lastly, don't be put off by the initial appearance of the hostel! It's located inside another building which looks pretty dodgy at first glance, but believe me its a great location (really close to the main square and there is a 24 hour supermarket right opposite the hostel!) and the hostel itself is clean and safe.

I'm already planning another trip to this hostel and would recommend it to anyone, especially students as there is a very youthful vibe in the place.

I stayed in seven different accommodations over a three week period and hands-down, this was the best one. Perhaps one of the best hostels that I ever stayed at.
What makes this hostel excellent?
1-The staff-The girls working at the front are very helpful, accommodating and friendly. Upon arrival, they will go over all the sights, the tours they can help organize (including Auschwitz), and three restaurants that were all great.
2-The atmosphere - The staff help build a very comfortable, friendly and sociable atmosphere. Every night, they do a dinner at 7:15pm for free and then a different event starting at 9am, like hooka, drinking games and such. Then off to a pub at 11 to keep the party going. For young and/or solo travelers, you couldn't ask for more.
The breakfast was good and more than enough for a hostel. The dormroom was clean, a bit small but manageable. Sockets everywhere to big your electronics. Location is very close to the train station, traditional market and the old square.
If I return to Krakow, I would definitely stay here again and recommend others to do the same.

We arrived off an overnight train so were too early for check in but they got the beds ready asap for us and talked us through everything we'd need to know straight away. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They'll organise a trip to Auschwitz too. It was clean and there are dinners and something on every night for everyone to socialise. Close to the station and minutes walk from all the things to do. The room was really quite hot but I would definitely recommend it.
