We went to Pod Baranem at the end of our recent trip as we fancied going somewhere a bit special for a final blowout. The food was very good indeed - we had the saddle of venison with forest sauce and the stuffed duck traditional Polish style - but at these prices it should be. The venison was about £12, which is very expensive indeed for Krakow, and main dishes all come unaccompanied, meaning side dishes are an additional cost. The portions were very small, which may come as a relief since Polish restaurants tend to serve up massive portions, but in this case the amount of food just felt mean. Almost zero ambience, which you really feel in a city with so many candlelit, cosy restaurants and bars. Service was pretty chilly too. All in all you would be better going across the road to Horoscope where you can get excellent Polish food at a fraction of the cost and with genuinely warm service.
