We took a family trip to Krakow, then Auschwitz in July 2007.
Auschwitz is about 1.5 hour by bus from Krakow. Rather than return to Krakow after the museum visit, we stayed in this bed and breakfast (Agroturystyka). It is located in a small village named Skidzin, about 7km from the town of Oswiecim.
The place is brand new, modern and sparkling clean. It is built as a large house, with perhaps 10-12 rooms on two floors. It's surrounded by a garden, some fields and other houses in an exceedingly quiet, very pretty location. It felt pastoral, fresh and relaxing.
The owners operate a cafe-restaurant nearby, where you can have your meals. They are kind and polite. They went out of their way to be helpful. They cooked us dinner late at night, then got up very early the next morning in order to serve us breakfast. The food was outstanding and inexpensive.
I was afraid that staying close to Auschwitz would feel strange,
instead we wished that we could have stayed at this place much
longer. We shall fondly remember Agroturystyka and Skidzin.
It is 7-8km from the Auschwitz museum. We got there by taxi, for 24zl ($9). The driver was quite helpful: he dropped us off at the b&b, then drove by himself to fetch the owner at the restaurant.
In the morning, we took the bus back to the Oswiecim train
station then a train to Prague. The bus stop is right next to the restaurant, and busses run every 30 minutes or so.
We speak not a word of Polish, but getting around was not a problem at all.
