“Leisurely walk along the beach in Sopot, Poland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

We recently traveled to Gdansk and stayed for a couple of days. Out of curiosity, we asked our hotel reception how to get to the neighbouring town of Sopot by public transportation. We learned that we can either take the train for 10 Zlotys return ticket per person(ca. 3 US$) or by boat for 30 Zlotys per person. It takes 20 minutes to travel by train with a timetable as frequently as every 15 minutes back & forth. Boat schedules are less frequent and will take us an hour to travel each way with the last boat traveling from Sopot to Gdansk at 4:30 p.m . We decided to take the train going to Sopot and intended to return by boat. The train ride went well and very much on schedule despite the train itself being rather outdated. Arriving in Sopot, we took the short walk towards the beach, which is unlike any other place we've visited in Poland, but more like any other posh holiday resort. To promenade along the prominent wooden pier, one needs to purchase an entrance ticket for 7 Zlotys per person. With the late August sun shining brightly, we had a nice walk along the pier, watching jet-skiers and other tourists taking pictures, having lunch or sipping drinks in one of several restaurants. Coming out of the pier , rows of souvenir and amber jewellery shops line the footpath towards the beachfront of the Grand Hotel where we enjoyed some ice cream in one of the restaurants. All in all, it was a nice couple of hours at the beach. The problem came when we wanted to get back to Gdansk by boat. An hour before the supposed last boat trip, we wanted to buy our boat tickets, but nobody seemed to know exactly where to get it. After a few more inquiries, we were finally directed to the tourist info office where we were informed that the boat travels only twice a day - once in the morning and once in the afternoon at 1:30 p.m.. That was the time we arrived in Sopot. Obviously, the best choice is to go back the way we came, by train, which we did and fortunately again, very much on schedule. And by the way, the pier ticket is valid for one entry only. So, you can't get into the pier, come out & do some shopping and return even within the same hour without paying for another ticket.

“crowded”

I prefer walking from Gdynia Redlowo to Sopot than stay on a crowded Sopot beach. You may see cliffs, streams and a lot of wedding dresses during that walk.

“Perfect potential”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

The beach is about 3 miles of beautiful sat. Potentially is absolutely perfect. Unfortunately there is quite a lot of broken glass, algae, a huge number jellyfish and lots of wasps. they need to work much harder to clean up the beach and make it safe.

“Really nice beach and a popular destination for holiday go-oers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

During the summer the beach has a large amount of people. It's a popular beach with many families playing in the water and people sunbathing. There are several bars along the beach and plenty of people taking part in water sports like Jet-Skiing and also para-gliders. You do have to be wary of some of the less tidy people who leave rubbish, but generally it is a clean beach. There is a fair amount of seaweed near the shore but most of this can be bypassed easily. Also be careful of certain times of the year, when you will experience sudden thunderstorms, but they usually pass by quickly. Overall, a great beach to visit if you're in the area.
