“Nice, but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2009

I have stayed at Lival several times, for business. In general, it is a brand-new, rather small, and nice hotel. The location is unbeatable, just several meters from the sea, if your room gives on this side, you can hear and see the sea, I like it very much. The service is nice and friendly, the prices are smaller than in central Gdansk. The room and bathroom were clean and OK. There was good Internet connection too. The only problem I had with the bathroom was that apparently the person who planned it was much taller than myself (I am 156 cm tall) and I had to stand on my toes to reach for the towel etc.
The owner of this hotel has a friend producing amber jewellery and it is sold there. Nothing very uncommon for hotels in Gdansk, but I must admit I have spent some money on items I like a lot.
There was one thing though that spoils this almost ideal picture. The hotel is concentrated so much on servicing the German package tours that it sometimes does not care at all for individual guests. The place is situated remotely from the center, outside the season there are no other place in the area to dine at, and the hotel restaurant often does not work until 10 pm as they declared. Once they just left me without nothing to eat, at 9:30, because "the cook has left", and the waiter was only interested in collecting tips from the German tourists, and not in organizing something for me. In other hotels, even when indeed the kitchen stops working prior to restaurant closure, one would get a salad or soup, at least, and often there are some "night dishes" or sandwiches available at the reception.
Maybe not a problem for a tourist, but for a person who comes to the city to work and returns to the hotel rather late, it is.

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel and believe that it offers very good value for money. It is situated in an up and coming area, with fairly classy new apartments being built next door. It couldn't be any closer to the beach - it was fantastic to hear the sound of waves gently lapping onto the shore from our third floor room as we were drifting off to sleep each night. The beach is clean and of a good quality. I can imagine that in the summer months it would get fairly crowded.
There was some building work taking place at the time of our visit, to improve the sea wall. It did't look too far away from completion and I'm sure would enhance the cycle path leading through to Sopot Pier.
We ate in the hotel restaurant once in the evening and enjoyed a good three course meal, with a bottle of Chilean red wine. We then retired into the pleasant bar area - the staff were friendly and unrushed - the hotel was very quiet.
Breakfasts were European style as expected, with plenty of choice. One of the waiters even came over to us and recognising that we were British, asked if we would be requiring any sausages and scrambled eggs. We didn't take him up on the offer but were grateful of the gesture.
The main room was a little small but perfectly adequate. We couldn't find an English speaking channel, which was a little disappointing, and there was no kettle and tea/coffee facilities but the perfect view of the Baltic more than made up for any little glitches. The room was warm and the bathroom area was actually a little bigger than average. The owners have obviously taken note of previous reviews and upgraded the showers. There was certainly no lack of water pressure - the thrust from the shower head would be enough to lift off a small shuttle!
The location of the hotel was perfect for us. It is literally a 2 minute walk to the tram station and then a 25 minute ride on tram 13, to the centre of town by Gdansk railway station. The taxi fare was 45 Zl each way to/from the airport - which seemed very reasonable.
If returning to Gdansk - which we hope to do - we would certainly stay at Hotel Lival once again.

This is a lovely hotel on the beach front, 2 mins walk from the tram to Gdansk (20-25mins). I stayed 3 nights there in november and had the hotel/staff to myself as i was the only guest !
The breakfasts and evening dinners were excellent (try the polish soup with cabbage and boiled eggs), all that for a reasonable price.
The room wasn't huge but very clean with a seaview, the staff were extremely friendly and polite. The only improvement maybe would be to have a little more tourist info in the rooms and more than 1 english speaking channel on TV/satellite, but on the whole i had a really great time and would definitely recommend !!

Last July I traveled in Poland with a group of around 40 people. We stayed 3 nights at Lival Hotel. It is a nice hotel beautifully located at the beach. Rooms are comfortable (some small). Breakfast was very good, and we had two suppers at the hotel as well - food was very good. I would recommend it and I will be staying there during my next visit.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2006

We stayed at hotel Lival a couple of nights in November 2006 and enjoyed it at lot. As we were the only guests these nights we felt like owning a hotel but not running it as we were well taken care off.

We were put on the third floor with perfect view of the Baltic. The rooms were clean and in good condition. The only negative thing was that the shower had too little pressure. I guess it would work in high season with more guests and all systems go. The surroundings are quite and very pleasant to walk in. The room is nicely heated and as AC for summers. The rooms are not very large if you do not go for one of thier larger suites.

The reception is very important as it serves as an information center as English is not that commonly spoken. They were all eager to help.

The buffet breakfast is tasty and there is lots of it! We tried the restaurant our two nights and were very satisfied. A main course would be between 27-57 zloty a bottle of red comes at 57 zloty. We felt we could take everything we liked both on the hotel and on town as prices are very cheap.

To get to Lival from the airport you should get at taxi the meter said 45 zloty going there and 43 going back so believe it or not we were not cheated as the hotel said it usually was 49. The place itself is just beside the lovely beach just made for walks in the mild low season. When you go downtown take tram 13, the station is close by (couple of minutes walk) the hotel. The tram takes you to the city in 15 minutes and it is almost free. You buy the tickets in the little kiosk close to the station and from the driver when the kiosk is closed. Remember that body language is important as only young people speak English (and the reception of course). We did not feel isolated at the place but then we had dinner at the hotel and not downtown. Taxi is very cheap so if we would have gone to downtown we would have taken taxi back.

There is a small shop besides the tram station and they have the little things you need. There is a polish styled shopping center less then 10 minutes away. You simply walk besides the tram track to the left when at the station on route you will pass the post office as well.

This place gives you good value in nice surrondings.
