We stayed two nights in early July. We chose a room with canal view which was nice, but very noisy. Our biggest complaint was temperature in the room. it was too hot and never comfortable for sleeping. While they rooms indicate they are air conditioned, it did nothing to cool the room. Alternatively opening the windows didn't help either as there was not a breeze in the proper direction. We requested TWICE to the front desk to look into the AC and they did nothing to fix it (not even sure if they ever looked). The staff of the front desk was not great, I would call it a "couldn't be bothered" attitude.

The breakfast was ok. Dinner food was pretty good. Bar service was very good and friendly.

Rooms were ok in size and bathroom - but not great and not worth the incresaed price over others in the area.

I would choose somewhere else in the area for this price. Other friends chose goldwasser apartments and they seemed much better than hanza, with same general location, same view, etc.

I only stayed here one night, but am impressed so far.

Very nice size room, especially for a European hotel. The bathroom is also a good size, complete with a bath tub.

Large LCD screen television, but unfortunately only 1 English channel, BBC News!

I had 2 twin beds pushed together to make a Queen size bed, very comfortable bed with good pillows and bedding.

Tried to have the window open, but my window is facing the roadway and quite loud outside.

Hotel is in a very good location, right by the water and very close to the old city.

No free internet in the rooms, but you can buy vouchers at the front desk for wireless connection. I paid 9 polish currency for 2 hours, works out to around $4.00 or so for the 2 hours.

I made the mistake of leaving my room with the door unlocked, you actually have to lock the door with the key. Luck for me no one came and took anything!

Once again, elevator very small, I carried all my luggage to the 2nd floor.

Breakfast is included with the room, not sure how good it is, since I haven't had it yet.

My first time in Poland, so I can't compare this hotel to anything else here, but I am impressed with the room.

the Hanza is a really mixed bag. Great location, right in the centre of the old town.
the rooms are modern, clean and the beds very comfortable which is of paramount importance if you are staying for a long period (as i was)
if you're lucky enough to get a river view room you will be treated to a great view from your window....

however, the food is fairly poor. the restaurant dishes are very pretentious and lack in flavor with odd combinations of flavors used. the fitness centre is pretty much nonexistent and the front of house staff though friendly seem to just laze about in the lobby all day which IMO makes for a very bad initial impression walking in the main entrance. the hotel bar is small and lacks anything resembling atmosphere.

all that said, from a business point of view the hotel is great, conveniently located with comfortable rooms. however if you're looking for a hotel that provides a gym/swimming pool (as a 4 star hotel should), somewhere with a lively bar and good tasty restaurant food then the hanza is not for you!

This modern hotel has an excellent location in the heart of Gdansk's absolutely charming Old Town, overloooking the scenic river - ask for a room with this view.

Our room had an oversized window looking onto this gorgeous scene (across from the maritime museum, with old ships moored in front).

The spacious room was nicely fitted out with modern dark wood furniture. The bathroom was just average (it could have used better lighting) as was the breakfast buffet. A pleasant surprise was the quality of the dinner in the hotel restaurant: both cooking and presentation were outstanding .

  • Liked — All modern conveniences, in an outstanding location
  • Disliked — The bathroom (just average, and with so-so lighthing)

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Hanza Hotel in September on a month-long tour of Eastern Europe. We were delighted with the locaton of this hotel. We had a junior suite overlooking the river or canal. The view was wonderful. The room was divided into a sleeping room and a sitting room which was plenty of room for us. Our bathroom was quite large and had nice amenities. The rooms were very clean. The hotel staff was efficient but not particularly warm. The breakfast was quite adequate for our needs but not outstanding. We would stay at this hotel again, in a room overlooking the canal. While I don't think this hotel is great value for your money if you are going to be in Gdansk only for a very short stay the location makes up for other considerations with the room being quite satisfactory. One consideration I might mention is there is an outdoor cafe that was not operational when we were there as it was quite chilly. I would imagine that the rooms overlooking the canal and are also just above the cafe might be a bit noisy on a summer evening and night depending on how late the cafe is open. If you want to be walking distance to the center square and yet off the square this is the perfect location. Also, we had a WONDERFUL dinner close by at Pod Lososiem Restaurant. It is a bit pricey but we celebrated my husband's birthday there and food was terrific and it was memorable place.

  • Liked — The location was perfect and the room was a nice size
  • Disliked — There were no special touches in the rooms - sort of sterile
