“Very decent place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2011

Not exactly three stars if you look at the furniture and the bathroom but very clean, with very friendly staff and a decent breakfast, all for a decent price. Located close to the city center is a place for everybody who doesn't want too much. We are both smokers and we've found there a place for smoking without bothering the others (it seems there are less and less places for people like us). Speaking Russian is an advantage since not only all the staff were apparently speaking Russian but Euronews was received in Russian as well...
Despite all this, next time visiting Prague I won't spend too much time looking for other hotels as I did.

The best part of this hotel is service. It's mostly run by russians, apparently. In fact only one recepee was Czech, others were russians who spoke decent english, and probably other languages, too. Artem, young man at reception was very welcoming, as well as Anastasia, Daniela and others. As much as I tried to get on my own, it felt like I could come up with silly tourist questions and get detailed explanations about routes, public transport, phone and such.

The second best part of this hotel is location. It's a three minutes walk from huge shopping center. There are bars not far away, a metro station and a number of bus and tram stations, where from you can get to every interesting part of Prague. On the minus side, if you got so unlucky to have windows into the nearest street - get ready for noise. But that's common in Prague. Police, ambulance, tram and some dude on a Ferrari chased by the police along narrows streets of Prague, all of them are making a lot of noise.

So-so parts are rooms, which are spacey and clean, but some equipment in bathroom needed repair or replacement. I wonder if replaceing shower hose and head is all that expensive for this hotel? The bedding was very clean, too.

I lived alone in a room intended for three, so yes, it did feel like spacey room. There was a lamp for each bed, a tv with enough programs to make background noise if you are into such things, a safe with default code replaced, which gives hope D'Angelo takes security seriously. There are CCTV cameras on each floor, too.

There's a lift, but I used stairs and was very surprised to find that railings of the stair was covered by dust one day. Never seen anything like that at any other part of the hotel. WiFi exists, probably, but signal is so unstable and it went down in the middle of the week I quit trying and worked with Vodafone mobile internet.

Breakfasts are edible, but still below anything you could get around the city. It was silly to discover no shampoo or showering gel in the three star hotel. No holder for shower head. The funny part you had to pay for hot water or rent electric boiler for czk 150,- (6+ EUR), even cheapest hotels I've been to had a big boiler on each floor. Otherwise you had to pay czk 20,- for as little as a cup of hot water. What a downer, really. Ladies compained about absence of hairdryer which you have to get at reception every time you want to take a shower. (It's free for one hour).

Can't ignore presence of summer terrace, which is inside a well of tall buildings, one of which is abandoned. Why, it was a nice place to have a chat.

So the best scenario for using this hotel is if you are spending most of the time downtown, get your food there and return there so tired you ignore the noisy street, the funny working shower, all you need is breakfast and then you run into the city.

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights on our visit to Prague. My husband only paid 40euroes per night and it is very close(5min) to Andel metro station and numerous trams and buses. Also the Smichov shopping centre and massive big Tesco next door. Our room was 37, very big and spacious, cleaned every day, with good shower and tv in the room and tea/coffee making facilities
The only negative for me was breakfast, which had 2 cereals to choose from, porrige and a small selection of cold meats. I kind of wanted a bit more but hey, with the big Tesco supermarket on the doorstep, I was not hungry.
I will stay in this hotel again if we can find the cheap deal again.

We didn't expect much from this hotel, to be honest, but our opinion changed fast. The only reason why this hotel isn't expensive is the neighbourhood-the surrounding buildings look really crappy. The location, however, is fine-it's just a few minutes from Andel metro station (btw there's also a big Tesco and a whole shopping center and a great restaurant called Zlaty klas). The parking is guarded, in the backyard, but watch it when you dirve in there-you gotta cross some tram lines!
Anyway, the hotel itself is very nice, perfectly clean, the rooms are really pretty, almost romantic. The bathroom was big and nice, but the plumbing is obviously old-so whenever we took a shower, it was like a whole orchestra is playing all the wrong tunes :)
The breakfast is preatty good, with the standard selection-the only thing I thought was a bit odd is there was no bread, only toast-and only one toaster.
But what I liked most about this place was the staff. I never ever meet such nice people. They were extremly helpfull, there literally was no question they didn't have an answer for. Very friendly, fast and with an honest smile and all that with perfect english! Anything you need help with about the hotel, about Prague, about sightseeing or even reservations for a fancy dinner-nothing was a problem.
I'm sure to go back there next time in Prague!

  • Liked — the friendly staff and the lovely room
  • Disliked — noises that the shower made while being used

Clean and not expensive standard class hotel. The major benefits: free WI-FI and parking. It seems like a bit far from city center, but near shopping center and just a few stops by train.
