“Great hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013 via mobile

If you're looking for a clean, modern hotel for a weekend in Prague, the Design Metropol is perfect. The rooms aren't huge but if you're visiting for a short time and only need somewhere to sleep, it really doesn't matter. As others have said, the breakfast is fantastic and served until late in the morning. We were on the first floor and it was surprisingly quiet. It also meant we could catch the signal of the lobby wifi for free! We found the staff incredibly friendly and helpful. The only downside I could find is that there was no plug socket next to a mirror, so I had to use the camera on my iPad to straighten my hair! (And if that's the worst thing you can say about a hotel, that's not bad going!)

The rooms are small, especially the bathroom is small, and there is no drain on the floor (but in the bathtub, of course). Air-conditioning worked well. The number of the electrical outlets is very limited. Usyally the staff should not get in the guest room, where the "do not disturb" sign is hanging on the door. The hotel staff normally greets customers, or at least meet the customer's salute...

My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in Prague.

The staff were very helpful especially the lady called Jarka on reception. We stayed during the recent heatwave when Prague was experiencing temperatures in the mid to high thirties.

The first room we were allocated was boiling hot but the staff were happy to move us to a different cooler room straight away.

The rooms are clean and minimally furnished with funky furniture.

The breakfasts were generous and freshly cooked.

Overall I am happy to recommend this hotel as it is in a really central location with all of the major sights within walking distance, the staff are friendly and it is not overly expensive.

Room Tip: Choose the rooms at the back of the hotel for a quieter night's sleep.

Rooms on small side, comfortable beds, plastic furniture, bathroom ok, wasn't cleaned very well sink just wiped over, make up I dropped on floor and hair was there for the four days!! No view Tesco and MY department store. Breakfast poor cold on all four days, did ask if could be warmed but staff didn't understand or choose not to, didn't like staff unhelpful, older women on recieption quiet rude, good location for old town, and harbour
Would stay again if price was right can't say its anything more than ok. Don't expect to much, you won't be Dissapointed then..

My weekend coincided with the Prague marathon, so there wasn't much choice, and I wanted to avoid the hostel-type places. The Design Metropol fitted the bill perfectly: unassuming outside (not a conventional hotel frontage) but clean and smart inside; room a perfectly good size; excellent bathroom; all clean and fine quality; breakfast buffet with a wide choice of fruit, meats, cheeses, eggs, bacon, etc. reception & restaurant staff spoke English and were all polite and helpful. All the main sites of interest in Prague are within walking distance. Splendid.

I choose this via British Airways and was very pleased with my choice. The hotel is very easy to find after arriving from the airport via the 119 bus and the metro to station Mustek fare 32, about £1.15. You come out of 'A' exit and walk down Narodni Street to wards some trees, the hotel is by the trees on the right. Across the road is Tesco's store. The room was very clean and spacious all white, and black with a red carpet. It has a safe and fridge but not tea and coffee. Everything very clean. A spotless bathroom. Someone previously said it was hot in the room, but they have switches on the wall to open the windows. Lighting was good. TV high on the wall. Not many hangers. Rooms are soundproofed, so we heard nothing. BF was a good choice and plenty of everything.WE saw dinner advertised in the lift, so the first night we stayed in and for about £11 you could have 3 courses and a pint of beer, good value for money, Or there was a la carte. This was cental to most places and we got around on the trams and buses. You need to get a day or 3 day pass from the Metro station - they no longer do a 5 day passes. If over 60 you get cheaper travel and if you have a spare passport photo, you can get a tickets even cheaper. They have a excellent transport system. Only cost us £1.15 to get back to the airport. But be wary of getting off at the airport. Make sure you are at the terminal you want, as the tram said T 1 where in fact it was inbetween the terminal. Toilets everywhere costing about 30p all very clean and well kept.

Room Tip: No need to as all soundproofed.

+ Central location
+ Breakfast buffet

– Horrible mansweat smell in the room, we had to change the room because of that and it smelled too.
– Rooms are small and have nothing to do with design
– Totally overpriced, you can find great hotels in Prague with the same location for half the price
– Only one elevator which is not very convenient during breakfast time since the hotel has 8 floors
– Air conditioning didn't work
