“Great Value, great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2012

We stayed in Residence Monastery In June 2012.
The hotel was lovely, with a large and light room which opened up on to a courtyard. In a quiet and beautiful location with good views over the city - however as previously mentioned it is a long walk up a steep hill which we didnt realise until later that could be accesed by public transport.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and there a plenty of nice restaurants within 5 minutes of the hotel.

Have recommended this to friends and family and would deifinately go back again.

We stayed in the Residence Monastery a couple of days ago. It was quite a good choice regarding the location and level of customer service. The rooms are quite good value for money, and although they look a bit raw, they are clean and comfy. The hotel is quite close to the trams, metro station and the centre. Modern bathroom, tasty breakfast and nice backyard are definitely the pros of the Residence Monastery. The only negative aspect was that there was no 'old town view' at all, as there was a tree and a building right in front of our window ;)

Room Tip: Always ask about the view if you care about it.

I stayed in the Monastery hotel a couple of weeks ago. It was an excellent place with a very scenic view and garden. The main gentleman at the reception is very nice and helpful. The rooms are nice with a modern bathroom. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is because our AC would turn on but would not cool the room. The property is situated on top of a steep hill which is honestly quite the workout, so a bus may be your best bet. The breakfast was also good.

This is a very special place to stay. It is an old monastery now converted. Large rooms with lot of character, beautiful garden and view overlooking green hills. This said, make sure you get there by public transport or a cab otherwise you will need to negotiate a long steep hill and absolute lack of indication how and where to find the residency. In fact, there are no signposts and after 7pm there is no one at the reception either. The place is not far at all from the metro or the centre - downhill will take you 15 min walk to charles bridge but uphill much longer. Monosyery is fab but make sure you get a discounted deal as otherwise expensive! Enjoy - this place is truly special

This little gem is at the top of mala strana which is the old town side of prague up from the charles bridge close to prague castle, st vitus cathedral and a trek up to petrin tower through the grounds is a must to enjoy views across the city. The rooms are very good value for money and the monastery itself is the perfect setting. Gives a taste of what prague is all about. The tram stop is just up from the hotel in the square and this takes you into central prage or to an underground stop if you prefer. Its not the ritz but what you need is a good nights sleep, breakfast and a nice stroll in the morning and it's what you get. The reception are helpful and for the people who turned up and didnt get a room, this must be a few isolated cases. i emailed the hotel directly and confirmed the booking and even requested a certain room. Prague isnt an expensive city and this reflects the hotel price, the brewery at the monastery is good and you must try the doppelberg its very tasty. All in all a brilliant time and i would use the hotel over and over, simple but if you dont mind a stroll its well worth it. If you have time, visit the neboziek restaurant on petrin hill by getting the funicular railway as at night during spring the whole city lights up and spectacular views matched with brilliant food gives a perfect evening

Room Tip: they have 2 floors for rooms so unless you request one thats not in the roof, tall people run the ri...

After reading the reviews of this place from Trip Advisor, we had booked this hotel for our Prague vacation. I can say this with hindsight, that this was one of the best decisions and had actually helped us to enjoy the city much better. The hotel is actually inside the complex of a 15th century monastery (Strahov Monastery - which by itself is a great place to visit for the Church and the library) and is virtually at the same level as the Prague castle. Nerudova Street is a 5 mins down hill walk, Charles Bridge is a 15 min by foot. We were a family of 4 and had a room in the attic with a ladder in the room leading to the upper level. Kids simply loved it !

The breakfast is spartan, and the hotel does not have a functional restaurant. The complex itself has 4 running restaurants with one of them offering a breathtaking terrace view of the old city. Plus Nerudova Street has plenty of options and is worth the trek simply to experience the view.

The only downside is that the place does not have an elevator (it was a monastery after all !) and if you have heavy luggage with you, or have feeble legs, be prepared for the extra efforts to carry your stuff. Another tip - most taxis do not go inside the complex and may want to drop you at the gate. It is a good 150 m walk to the hotel from the main gate and it may be a better idea to book anm airport pick up from the hotel (around Eu 20).

Would recommend this place strongly. The staff were very friendly and helpful and my special comments from Stefan, the receptionist. He was the epitome of helpfulness. Would love to come back here again.

Room Tip: Try for the rooms on the top floor - you can actually see St Vitus Catherdal spires from your room.
