“Charm at the edge of the city.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

We spent four nights at the King Charles Boutique. Although slightly out of town (ten minutes by tram), it was perfectly situated with excellent transport connections: trams 18,17 and 6 will take you to the city centre and the metro is a ten minute walk away. The beautiful Vtlava River is a ten minute walk away.
The room was beautifully furnished with antique phone and lovely dark wood furniture. As usual, although we booked a double room, we found two singles pushed together which is our only moan! The shower was lovely and hot with 'massage' jets.
The staff at the hotel speak English and were always helpful with directions and welcomed us with a warming shot on arrival!
Breakfast is a hot and cold buffet which is worth getting up for but if you don't make it there is a kettle in the room and a Lidl with fresh bakery just across the road!
We would happily stay here again.

Room Tip: If you want a view, check when you book.

Dear yogianne,

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your four days in Prague with our King Charles Boutique Residence.

We are glad you appreciated our location in historical centre of this beautiful city. Thank you for your compliment regrading our furniture and our staff. We really apologize you got the room with two connected single beds. Next time don't hesitate to ask us everything what you want, because our receptionists are prepared to help you and to ensure you comfort. We could solve this problem with providing you the room with one big king size bed. Anyway, thank you very much for your nice response!

We will be glad to see you again! Come yourself and invite your friends!
We wish you happy holidays and all the best in 2013!

Room Tip: Do not get a room at the front of the hotel, noisy trains and trams.

Dear Texasthebigone1966,

Thank you very much for your response. Feedback is such a valuable source of information, regardless of whether it is good or bad, and enables us to continually strive to improve our standards. I was sorry to read that your recent stay at King Charles Boutique Residence did not live up to your expectations. However, I would like to add a few things:

First of all, our hotel is located in historical area and it is not so easy to make a fancy sign as everything (every little detail) should be discussed by historical department. I definitely agree that we should put a bigger sign than we have right now and we are already trying to do so, but it takes quite a long time.

Secondly, we do provide a kettle and a wide variation of tea + sugar in the room. In addition, there is a coffee machine in the lobby, where coffee costs only 20 CZK (which is less than 80 euro cents or less than 0,64 pounds). We do provide a milk upon request for free. Nevertheless, as per request for one room we provided coffee sachets (at least 2 per day + bags of milk). If you asked for more coffee it would be provided.

Regarding extra pillow, we brought 3 extra pillows immediately for the triple room and we brought one extra pillow for the double room. Of course, we could bring more pillows, if you would asked for them.

Please accept my apologies, but we checked both rooms and the water and sink are OK.

Jacuzzi is an extra service (which is provided only in a few rooms for the additional cost). As all rooms without this service were booked we provided the room with jacuzzi for free. The only mistake from our side was, that receptionist didn't mentioned it on the arrival (you had a late check-in and he didn't want to slow the check-in process). Please, check our description there is NO information about jacuzzi.

With regards to our breakfast offering, we really believe that every day should start with a good breakfast, and we do receive many positive comments from our guests regarding the variety of choice offered on our buffet. If there are any items that guests would like to see added to this, we do listen and in fact include mos of it. I would highly appreciate if you can write me on es@kingcharles.cz what you didn't find in our breakfast menu.

We do provide bath robes upon request for the Superior rooms. You didn't ask for them.

I am sorry that you did not find your experience at King Charles Boutique Residence as enjoyable as others on this site did but would like to thank you for your feedback. I deeply regret that you didn't express your dissatisfaction in Prague as we could make your stay better.

Yours sincerely,
Evgenia Sakharova

This is a charming hotel just off the touristy areas of Prague. The hotel's rooms are clean, spacious and beautifully decorated, and the beds quite comfortable. My girlfriend thought it was the most beautiful room she had ever stayed in. The staff - all seemingly fluent in Czech, English and Russian - are extremely kind and helpful.

The King Charles is in a quiet, safe neighborhood only a very short walk to one of the many excellent sights in Prague, the famous Vyshehrad Castle, which is magnificent and offers stunning views of the city, plus a gorgeous church and a famous Czech cemetery where Dvorak, Smetana and other famous Czechs are buried. See Vyshehrad both during the day and evening, it's gorgeous.

The hotel is only a two-minute walk to a tram which will connect you pretty quickly to most all tourist sights in Prague. The hotel sells tram tickets which is most convenient, although one day they ran out of the cheapest price tickets, but that can happen. Buying some extra tickets to keep with you is a good idea. Getting around Prague is easy and inexpensive. It's an easy city for walking, too. Many sights are not too far apart.

Breakfast includes a wide selection of items and is very good, although they seemed to stress hard boiled eggs for their egg selection, the week we were there. A more frequent change of eggs would be good. But each day they do offer various cheeses, hams, sausages, vegetables, fruits, coffee, tea, different fruit juices, water, several kinds of granola, yogurt, various breads, rolls and pastries, and more, so there is plenty to eat. And they'll pack you a sandwich, yogurt, apple and water if you have an early flight when you leave.

There are two very good restaurants a minute or two from the hotel (we tried them both), and the hotel offers 10% discount coupons for them. Plus there are other bars and restaurants in the hotel's vicinity. As others have mentioned, the King Charles graciously offers you a shot of a famous Czech liquor, Becherovka, upon your arrival.

The hotel will arrange taxi pickup to and from the airport, which normally costs 680 Czech crowns each way, about $34. But if you contact them ahead of time, at least as of November, 2012, if you ask for a taxi for 550 crowns each way, about $27.50, they will arrange it at that price.

A side note: if you're a hockey fan, as I am, talk to Sasha from the staff and he'll give you a delightful earful about European hockey and Prague's new team in the Kontinental Hockey League.

With the very reasonable price this hotel charges, staying here is a no brainer. You can stay in a touristy selection of the city for probably far more money and likely a less quiet stay. Prague is gorgeous and the King Charles is a wonderful place to begin to explore this great city.

The hotel is well situated for either a 25 minute walk or a 10 minute tram ride to the Old Town (tram stop few minutes from the hotel). It is clean and tastefully decorated. The staff are polite, helpful and really seem to care about their guests, with nothing being too much trouble. Alexandr looking after our requests, recommended restaurants and provided suggestions for how to spend our time touring Prague. Other staff (unfortunately I do not know their names) were also helpful and friendly.

I initially booked a room for my boyfriend and I to stay in Prague during Semana Santa (Holy Week). When my boyfriend's brother decided that he would also like to tag along, we emailed the hotel to see if they could add another bed to our room. They listened to our request and we had no problems changing our reservation.
When we arrived in Prague, we got lost while trying to find the hotel but once we got there, I had the location of the hotel burned to the back of my head. We were also served a shot of Becherovka, a traditional Czech liquor. We stayed in a superior room and it was quite cramped with three beds in it. But the decoration was quaint and the room was spotless. A tea set was available for us to use as well. The bathroom was roomy but the water was not always hot. If two of us took a shower in a row, we found that the third person would end up with cold (not even lukewarm) water.
We were told that there is a tram stop two minutes from from the hotel but we decided to take the pleasant 20-minute walk to the city centre everyday.
The breakfast at the hotel is everything I dreamed of and more! The breakfast varied from day to day but they always had bread, cereal, eggs, vegetables, fruit, juice, coffee, and tea.
If you're on a budget, I highly recommend this hotel. The staff is friendly and speaks excellent English and the rooms and beds are comfortable. I'd most definitely stay in this hotel again if I return to Prague!!

Dear sweetest_strawberry,

Thank you very much for choosing our hotel for your recent stay in Prague and for sharing your review on Trip Advisor! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your trip. Thank you for your kind words regarding breakfast. We made some improvements in the menu and we are glad that you liked it.
Please accept my apologies for the water in your room. We have a boiler in each room and the amount of water should be enough for 2-3 people. In case that the hot water runs out we are happy to provide you with the key for another room to take a shower (if possible).

We hope to have you as our guest again soon.

hotel is very nicely decorated, beds are very comfortable, we slept very well all 3 nights. we slept so well (went to bed pretty late too), we were never up in time for breakfast so cannot comment on that. desk staff very friendly and helpful. couple of negatives; the room needs to have tea and coffee and milk, not just teabags and a kettle. we wanted to have a coffee in our room in the morning before venturing out. every room needs a shower, just mount the shower head etc on the wall. we didn't always want or have time for a bath. noise from slamming doors was very very loud. if we weren't so exhausted from walking around for hours it would've bothered us a lot more. location of the hotel is perfect. if you stay around the area there are a few bars, restaurants and shops. find the river which is 2 minutes away, walk up the river and you will be at charles bridge and the centre of prague in about 20 mins. or catch the tram which stops just around the corner from the hotel. will definately stay in this hotel again.

prague; every morning we caught the tram into the centre and went for breakfast/lunch at The Bakeshop, then wandered around prague for hours admiring the amazing architecture.
the main square is so beautiful but the staff in the bars and restaurants are rude and unfriendly. the prices are high, you pay just to sit there and service charge is added on. there are many places only slightly away from the main tourist area where we went to eat and drink. the staff were very welcoming, friendly and the food was great. prices much lower and beer etc very cheap. will definately go back to prague.

Dear reeby83,

We would like to thank you for your kind words about our hotel. We are glad to hear that you liked our design and found our bed comfortable.
Thank you very much for your words about our staff. We really appreciate that. Regarding your note about coffee in the room, we do have tea bags and a kettle in the rooms as you mentioned and also we have a coffee machine at the lobby, so you could definitely have a cup of coffee there. Also you could ask for a milk our receptionists, we always give it to our guests.
Just for your information, we do have a few Standard rooms with the shower, please write your request next time, we would be grateful give it to you.

Thank you very much for your notes especially about the location and restaurants. I hope that you tried at least one of the nearest.

When you book a room in King Charles Boutique Hotel, they offer to arrange a taxi to pick you from the airport or railway station. We are glad we accepted their offer, for the taxi was excellent and we would have found it difficult to find this hotel on our own, as it is situated in a small lane and might easily have been overlooked! While the hotel is far from the city centre by Prague standards (tourist maps do not show the area south of the botanical garden), one can reach Charles Bridge in about ten minutes by tram no. 18, which stops at Albertov just across the road.

The hotel is an old four-storey building, which you enter through large doors adorned with brass plates and knockers. You will have to ring the doorbell when you arrive, for the doors are generally locked from inside. Once you check in, though, your key card unlocks the front doors as well.

The reception area is tiny, but well furnished. The rooms are best accessed through the well-carpeted staircase. There is just one small lift – obviously a later addition to this early 20th century structure – which is located outside the building and opens on the landings between the floors! The rooms are quite small, but crammed with seemingly antique carved wooden furniture, which is ornamental, but not very practical.

Our room was provided with a double bed, but there were no bedside tables. There was a huge wardrobe but it had no shelves inside, and so its utility was rather limited. There was a small table on which an electric kettle and teabags were placed. Finally, there was another table on which the TV and writing materials were placed. There was just one chair, and no space for another one.

But let us not forget to count our blessings. The room was very clean, brightly lit and and well heated. There was good internet connectivity through wi-fi. From the window, there was a view of the adjacent street, railway line and a several churches in the distance. The bathroom was relatively large, equipped with a bathtub (and even a Jacuzzi, though it was not working).
Breakfast was served in the dingy little restaurant located in the basement and it turned out to be quite disappointing. The choices were limited – hardly any fruits – and the cereals appeared to be stale.

The staff was limited and not very professional. When we checked in with two large suitcases, my wife had to ask twice at the reception before they understood that we might need help for getting them upstairs. The night before we checked out, we had asked the young man at the reception counter if they accepted payment in USD and he had replied enthusiastically that nobody ever refuses US dollars! At the time of checking out, however, the young lady at the reception counter – who told us that she was from Kazakhstan and knew six languages – was not sure about accounting US dollars and finally gave us a handwritten receipt instead of a computer printout.

On the whole, this hotel would be appropriate for backpackers or energetic young couples with limited budgets – maybe we should have stayed there twenty years ago!

If you decide to stay next time we would be grateful to provide you with free upgrade from Standard/Attic room to Superior. Thank you very much for your kind words regarding WiFi connection and cleanliness. Please, ask for the room with Jacuzzi in advance as this is a paid service.
