Do not stay anywhere else. We had the attic apartment over the Christmas holidays and felt like the luckiest people in the world. This is by far the best location in the old town square. Tons of people gather to watch the astronomical display while we simply viewed from our many vantage points in our room. The breakfast spot is fantastic with stunning views as well and a grand piano. It is definitely loud at night so you must weigh the location and the noise before making your decision but we had two young children that were not awoken by the noise. We also hired a personal tour guide which made the trip and the company arranged for our airport transfers. I do recommend Cowboy's Steakhouse for a lively night (it really gets going late night) and for a change of pace the national marionette theatre was fun. For antique garnet jewelry go to the Antiques shop on Kaprova Street and for a very casual but delicious lunch go to Bohemia Bagel on Masna street (also an internet cafe for those who want to check in). We had a lot of fun taking the funicular up Petrin Hill and made a reservation at Nebozizek (halfway up the hill) which was lovely. Have fun in Prague!!

Stayed here for 4 nights during October 06. Having previously stayed next door at the Apostolic Residence (also owned by the Grand Hotel) , we were expecting very high standards. We were not disappointed. Our room overlooked the famous Astronomical Clock and another window had a spectacular view of the old Tyn Church and Old Town Square.

The room was beautifully furnished with antiques and the standards of cleanliness was exceptional. The en-suite bathroom was also superb.

Breakfast was buffet style set up in a restaurant overlookiing the Old Town Square and had everything you could really want.

Our room rate worked out at around £120 a night, but considering the location & quality of the accommodation, that was a fair price.

We've no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.

Perfect central location, really friendly helpful staff, clean beautiful rooms...couldn't get any better. Some reviews comment on the noise from the crowds in the square, but frankly..don't book a hotel smack in the middle of a busy tourist spot if you aren't prepared to put up with a little noise!

  • Liked — Central location and beautiful rooms
  • Disliked — They could have had larger mini bars!!
  • Tips/Secrets — Try the steam sauna!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2006

Just arrived home from a one week stay at The Grand Hotel Praha.

The first night there were no suites available, so we had a regular room on the 2nd floor which was nice. It had a large bed, dressing area w/ armoire and small bathroom with shower. This was a decent room, although in the evening it was a bit loud from the noise in the hallway and outside the window (overlooking a courtyard). Although there are double doors, so once we shut the 2nd door, it took some of the noise away. The room also lacks walking space around the bed. So each time I walked to "my side" of the bed, i ran into the heater. But from what I hear Czech hotel rooms are quite small, so I wasnt bothered too much. Overall I would recommend to spend the extra 500 CZK and upgrade to a suite.

For the rest of our stay we were in a suite located on the 2nd floor, facing the Astonimical Clock and Old Town Square. The suite was VERY nice.. very large size, a private dressing area w/ 2 armoires and 2 bathrooms. The first bathroom had a toilet, a bidet and a standup shower. The 2nd bathroom had a shower/tub combo + a sink & large countertop.

This room was located directly across from the Astronomical Clock. If you are a light sleeper, this room may not be for you. And although I consider myself a light sleeper, the clock did not wake me up every hour, on the hour. I would say I was more woken up by the drunken fools outside walking the streets or the local Czech lady (who insisted on screaming at the tourists outside every night exactly at 9pm). And yes at times I was sleeping at 9pm from my 14 hour flight and sight seeing all day.

But nonetheless the view from the room was worth all the noise. The view was wonderful and every morning we walked to the windows, opened them up and enjoyed the beauty and peacefulness (and emptiness) of the Old Town Square. I don't think we've ever had a better view in all the hotels I've stayed at around the world.

The staff was top-notch and couldn't be more accomodating. Service is always a deal breaker for us and I would rate the service as high as a 5 star hotel like The Penninsula!

The complimentary breakfast was very good with many options. (especially the dessert cart!!)

We booked a hotel/airport transfer directly through the hotel and it couldn't have worked out more smoothly.

There is complimentary internet service, which would cost you per minute in most hotels. So this was very helpful!!

Overall we had a wonderful experience at this hotel and would highly recommend it.

  • Liked — Central Location, Staff and views
  • Disliked — Way too hot in the lobby!!
  • Tips/Secrets — Pay the extra 500CZK and upgrade to a suite. It is well worth the $$$!

This hotel is as central as it gets. It was my 40th Birthday weekend and 20 friends stayed here and had the best time. In such a beautifual city we needed to be centrally based and where it was happening. It was perfect. We all had rooms with a view of the old square and the famous astronomical clock and yes whilst it does chime on the hour every hour it is a wonderful sight to live with and well worth putting up with for a weekend. We had the presidential suite in the hotel which was beautiful and very spacious, even had its own sauna!! Well worth spoiling yourself , believe me its wonderful here. All the bedrooms where slightly different sizes but very comfortably and appealing. I can't wait to return to Prague and would not consider staying anywhere else.

My husband and I had a short stay at this hotel in September.
The hotel surpassed our expectations in every way. We booked on the internet without any recommendations and couldn't believe our luck when we arrived. Set in the centre of the beautiful old town square and looking right at the astronomical clock. Prague is a beautiful city but we were reluctant to leave our hotel each day as we felt like royalty in our gorgeous room. It was very spacious, clean and very well appointed with 2 sets of beautiful windows overlooking the square and straight at the clock. The beautiful timber floor and window surrounds and marble benchtops were luxurious and bed and linen were also delightful. The room felt more like a suite than the standard double room with view that we'd booked. If you book this hotel be sure to book a view, as it would be a crime to be here without the magnificent view. The staff were extremely helpful, everyone spoke engish and nothing was too much trouble. One word of advice though, be sure to tip the handsome young man who takes your bags to your room.!!!!

The hotel is realy beautifull.... but we did not have the best of luck with our room during our stay. Got the worst room, and the staff did not seem to care. It was dark and noisy - the aircon was out of order (and it took a day to convince the staff that it neaded fixing!) the windows could be opend - if we liked the smell from the kitchen. - But the smell of bacon at 2 am just didn´t please us!! Ended up buying earplugs to sleap
If you stay at this hotel, only choose rooms towards town square - avoid rooms to the back at all cost! Never again
