“The BEST B&B in Prague, there is!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2006

What more can we say about Guesthouse Lida? Aside from a very nice B&B, very clean, private baths at every room, parking garage is only a 2-min walk, breakfast is not only scrumptous but can be served late. We are so glad we found this place online and Rick Steve's book. It's like being at home away from home. Since Jiří and his wife were on a holiday, we only got to meet Jan and his lovely wife, Jitka (sp?) - who are very charming and excellent hosts. Aside from Jan being very informative about the city - for first time visitors, he will give the guest(s) a brief intro upon arrival - he has train tickets and museum passes avail for purchase. Should a guest or guests need to go to a show or tour of the city, Jan can certainly make arrangements for reservation(s). Jan had recommended some excellent restaurants and pubs to go to, as well. Not to mention that he is knowledgeable about Czech and international wines.

Having said all that, since we didn't get to visit some other museums and sights to see - not to mention the fabulous and relaxing experience we had at the Guesthouse, we are already booked for the next month's visit. We are hoping to meet Jiří and his wife, this time.

I cannot say enough about Guest House Lida. You've probably already heard about Jin and Jiri who own and run the Lida and I can attest that they live up to it all.

The rooms are clean and comfortable and Jin/Jiri have recommendations, tickets and everything you need to get around Prague.

The brothers Jan and Jiri Prouza bought this nice large early-20thc mansion after communism's fall and named it after their mother, Lida Prouza. And the two of them take turns in making travelers feel like family! The extent to which they go out of their way to be helpful is remarkable, with lots of information (as desired) on how to move about in Prague, where to go nearby for super restaurants, the works. Our only complaint was something they couldn't control: all of Europe was in the middle of a major heat wave and our room didn't have access to a good breeze. Our laundry was done by Jan's wife for a very modest charge. Ice was available for guests from their small freezer. Breakfasts were extensive enough to be able to bypass lunch! Free use of their computer to go online. If all B&Bs were run this well, hotels would go bankrupt! And by the way, even though we stayed only six nights and not for the entire week, we were given the discount for weekly stays.

  • Liked — helpfulness of the brothers Prouza
  • Disliked — well, no air conditioning, but that's typical for Prague
  • Tips/Secrets — contact the hosts by email in advance; they are very helpful

This is truly a great way to stay in Prague at an affordable price. Jan and Yitka (sp?) were wonderful hosts and the most helpful and passionate ambassadors for their city that I have ever enjoyed. They provide a wonderful breakfast every morning tho not nessarily typical North American, more than enought to satisfy every appetite. The large double was fabulous, spacious and overlooking a nice green backyard. The subway and tram were about 3 - 4 blocks away, tho we walked to downtown. There were two great pubs within a few blocks serving Czech cuisine that was nicely presented and very inexpensive, if somewhat heavy. Jan has wine and water for sale in the breakfast room for a great price and convenience or go to the local grocer 2 blocks away. The website doesn't flatter the property, it is much nicer that presented there. The area seems very safe and convenient. If you don't mind a short journey to the city centre you would be hard pressed to find a cleaner, more comfortable and hospitable place than this. Heartily recommended. Book early Rick Steeves is supporting it and the place is heavily populated with his readers!
Enjoy!
