“Excellent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We were a bit concerned about dining in Prague when the DK Guide starts off talking about food by saying "no one goes to Prague for the food." However, we were pleasantly surprised after visiting the Kolkovna. There are a couple locations for this restaurant; we visited the one behind the casino.
Some people might not quite like the service, but we enjoyed it. The waiter made the [correct] assumption that I was there for beer, only my wife was asked for her drink order. When we asked what he recommended, he basically told us what we were going to order, but there was no problem there. I had a massive platter of mixed meats (sausage, duck, roast beef, ham, and roast pork (Morovian Sparrow) and my wife had the roast beef in cream sauce. Both dishes were quite good. The food is sort of basic, but there is nothing wrong with letting flavors speak for themselves.
Of course, the beer is excellent!
There are two wings to the restaurant, so smokers and non-smokers are better separated than in many places we have seen.
For the two of us, it was about 30 Euro.

“Experience real Prague food, beer and atmosphere - wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

Went here and got stuck into the Goulash & Dumplings, Roast Pork (which comes as a joint on a big wooden board with your own carving knife!) and Chicken with friends (all in 40s). Head for the cellar for non smoking where there is a large oval table to seat 12 if you are in a group, all bricks and vaulted ceiling. The all male staff were fine and kept up the flow of Pilsner. We went to several places in search of the genuine Prague pub experience recommended in 'The Good Beer Guide to Prague' by Evan Rail and this did not disappoint. See other reviews for other drinking and dining pubs from the book we visited. Arrive hungry and you won't be disappointed although like much of Prague vegetarians will struggle.

“Good food, good prices, great beer”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2013

Really enjoyed our meal, I ordered the Morovian Sparrow (Actually Pork) and the wife ordered lamb chops. Both were really tasty and large portions. The beer is cheap and served in a range of sizes across a decent range. Only downside is its a bit smokey (as most restaurants are in Prague).

“Weekend visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013 via mobile

Went there on recommendation from the bell hop from our hotel. Checked Tripadvisor before hand and didn't seem too bad. Also came across it by accident when on a "free walking tour". (By the way the free walking tour is great value. Although it says free the tour guide is self employed. We had Lann who was very good and tipped him 300 which was about a tenner between us). Back to the restaurant. Good atmosphere. Ask for a downstairs table if you don't 'tlike the taste of nicotine with your meal. They looked at me as if I as from outer space if I preferred to eat in a smoke free environment. I had half a duck (enough to feed two people) and my wife had pork sparrow. We shared both dishes which was fine and was more than enough. Like previous reviewers, a lot of froth on the beer but very nice. Worked out about £35 including tip. They do mention the bill doesn't include tip. But if you're like me if the service is rubbish, don't leave owt. On this occasion it was worth a tip. Overall I would recommend this restaurant for an evening meal.

“Best place we ate at in Prague”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2013

We went for lunch to the one right next to the Spanish synagogue and Kafka statue, at the recommendation of our local sandmen's free tour guide, and were glad that we followed her advice. The service was excellent, portion sizes generous, and we liked the pub atmosphere. A great place to try out local cousin or enjoy a beer.
