“Beautiful Hotel in a wonderful city.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

We stayed at the Alchymist for two nights to celebrate my husband's birthday. Check In was extremely friendly and efficient and we were offered hot mulled wine as soon as we came in from the cold which was a lovely touch. I was delighted to find that the hotel was as beautiful inside as was depicted on the website.

We were immediately shown to our room which was called a Deluxe and really was! We had a beautiful four poster bed and the room was of a good size with plenty of storage. The ceiling showed the original timbers and the view from the window was down onto the narrow cobbled street below. The bathroom was also generous in size with all of the usual things plus full size bath, shower and bidet. My one single complaint, if I were to be really picky, would be that it was quite noisy above us at various points in the day - presumably because of the wooden floor, hence the lower score for sleep quality.

We dined in the Aquarius Restaurant within the hotel which was a really beautiful setting, as were all areas within the hotel. We both opted for Czech specialities which were wonderful, as was the Czech red wine. The service was faultless and we felt that they very much deserved the £120+ proce tag. As this was a special occasion we were happy with the cost, but wouldn't dine there every night if we stayed longer. The Reception staff are more than happy to recommend other restaurants nearby, as well as giving useful information, directions and booking Theatre or Concert tickets for you.

Breakfast was also excellent although we weren't sure if we were meant to help ourselves to some things or everything as the staff were either all available and served tea, coffee, the hot breakfast items etc to your table. of they all vanished at the same time! The selection available really was excellent with many items being home made.

The Spa had a wonderful ambience and it's use was included in the price. The pool temperature was reported to be 28 degrees, but it didn't feel that warm so we only had a very quick dip and went for a Sauna to warm up! The Sauna is tiny, so don't expect a massive cabin and the Steam Room could only fit two people in it. It was rather unfortunately located through the Gents changing area which was very odd and meant that my husband had to go in and out first to ensure I didn't get a nasty surprise! The signage wasn't great so we did wander around a bit looking where to go when we arrived as the Reception desk was through the Spa, not at the Entrance to it. We did have a nice relax on the loungers in the relaxation area listening to the chill out music, but did feel that there could be some improvements made just to make things a bit clearer. We didn't have any treatments, but there appeared to be a good selection which were the same cost as a pricey Spa at home.

The evening Cheese and Wine offered between 5pm and 6pm was a lovely generous touch and it was a shame that we only had time to do this once. It made a great start to the evening and produced a nice social atmosphere amongst the guests (omitting those who were there to get as much of what was on offer as they could and be as loud as you like!).

The stay was really made by the staff for us and they are a credit to the hotel. If you are looking for a romantic luxury escape in a beautiful city with personal service, I highly recommend it.

Really nice stay we had a lovely suite that was immaculate, we found the staff very friendly and helpful. The only minor negatives was a Gin & Tonic for £14.00, now we travel extensibly and never had such an expensive Bombay Saphire, even Sydney was cheaper than this. The second problem was our room had a bathroom with lace curtains right opposite other windows from neighbouring properties, we could see out so anyone opposite could see in! Room 211 beutiful but this was a problem and notified to the reception on leaving. We will recommend to friends and return to this hotel when in Prague, just watch bar prices!

From the 19-21st November 2012, I organised a three day corporate meeting for 20 persons to this amazing hotel. I can honestly say it was the most successful meeting In Europe to this day. From my initial enquiry to the hotel, my meeting preparation could not have been more smooth and professional, thanks to Ivana, and the wonderful team at the Alchymist Hotel. After my initial enquiry to hotel, Ivana was my primary contact at the hotel - her response to emails and telephone calls was exemplary. I always felt that that my meeting was the most important to the hotel at that time. Even though I had not visited the hotel before the meeting, the information I was provided with gave me total confidence that the meeting would be a success and it certainly was. My biggest thanks to Ivana for her undivided attention during the meeting. The hotel was simply perfect!

We were allocated the Crystal Ballroom, which perfectly matched our requirements for a small group - a spacious meeting room with natural daylight and an adjoining room for coffee and lunch breaks. Our additional meeting requests were honoured within minutes, and the hotel would have done anything to furnish any extra requirements.

All the rooms were superb and fabulously furnished, each with a unique decor. Each night between 5 and 6pm, we were invited to a cheese wine tasting, not to mention the welcome drinks upon arrival at the hotel! The Concierge and Reception were most obliging and we were made to feel special and important at every moment. My special thanks to Ahmed for organising the ground transfers for the group and to Peter, for transporting everyone during the meeting. And not to forgot Stan, for his undivided attention to our group and his personal touch! And to Katerina, for her most interesting stories and positivity. Its so refreshing to stay at a boutique hotel with such sense of attention to detail and to leave, having made friends with such wonderful personnel.

My stay was so perfect that I cancelled my booking with a local hotel that weekend, so In could spend more time at the Alchymist, this time at leisure. Again, we were treated extremely well, and I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to anyone.

The Alchymist is a 16th century hotel with an amazing history. If your itinerary permits, check out the spa - buried deep in the cellar, truly romantic and luxurious, wish we had more time to enjoy!

Thank you everyone at the Alchymist, truly enjoyed my stay and would love to be back in 2013.

Sarah

I have been to Prague many times and this is by far the best hotel. The rooms are well appointed cozy, you feel as if you are in a house not a hotel. The staff especially Katerina was super attentive. The location is great in Mala Strana- less touristy. My mother loved the wine and cheese gathering every afternoon. I will certainly be back soon.

Great hotel, well located on the quieter side of town, very close to the Charles Bridge. Staff were extremely attentive and helpful, as they could not facilitate our requirement for a twin room we were upgraded to a suite without even asking. The afternoon wine and cheese tasting was a nice touch and the choice of food at breakfast was fantastic. Spa was adequate, with a small pool and sauna, however the poolside area was lovely with a Thai theme. Decor was ornate and 'rococo'. Would definitely recommend this hotel and believe it to be fantastic value.

We recently stayed at the Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa and had a wonderful experience. The staff was most pleasant and accomodating, the breakfast (including their homemade yogurt) was delicious, the rooms were beautiful, the afternoon wine and cheese was lovely and the spa is simply gorgeous. It is centrally located in the city with close access to many main attractions.Overall, we had a great experience, would certainly go back, and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Prague.
